Xcaret is what's called an "eco-park" in the Riviera Maya. Eco parks are not like theme parks with rides, instead it is more like an interactive zoo with exotic animal exhibits in the natural jungle environment. If you have kids of any age, this is the tour we recommend. There are over 40 exhibits at Xcaret including a butterfly pavilion and a bat cave that you can walk through, a coral reef aquarium, an authentic Mexican cemetery, plus an underground river you can float down. The turtle farm exhibit features turtles of every shape and size from tiny newly-hatched turtles up to giant tortoises. Don't miss the spider monkeys and the manatees too! At the end of the day Xcaret opens the theater for their nightly performance of "México Espectacular", which is a wonderful show depicting the history of this area from the Mayan ball games to the Hispanic and American influences that arrived. This is done through costumes, music and dance by over 300 performers. The night show is every day at 7:00 PM (summer April to October) and 6:00 PM (winter October to April) and lasts about 2 hours. Xcaret has 2 types of entrance: Regular and Plus. Both include transportation, entrance, all the animal exhibits, underground river and the night show. The Plus adds on a buffet lunch, snorkel equipment rental, towel & locker. If you are planning on using all of the things included in the Plus entrance, you should book that as it is a bit cheaper than getting the Regular and paying individually for the lunch, snorkel equipment, locker and towels. The tour will pick you up at your hotel lobby and take you to the park. There is not a guide really because at the entrance you will get a map of the park, then you are on your own to explore Xcaret however you wish.
