Hi, I'm hoping that we will be booking Temptations for late January but wife is a bit nervous about the whole idea. Any suggestions on how to make her worry less about this being an "adult" resort?

She is in an occupation that may frown slightly on the topless optional aspect of this resort (if anyone knows). If anyone (like the in-laws, conservative friends, etc.) asks you where you're going in Cancun, do you tell them Temptations or do you have another answer that makes sense?

Also: what is the percentage of men/women that dress in "lingerie" for the casino night and is this just done after dinner is all over? Is it acceptable to not get "dressed" in lingerie. Would we be out of place?

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

OK... for her to feel better, it's an adult’s only resort but not like Hedo where you might trip over someone around the pool having fun, or like Secrets where they try to make it a romantic resort by sending couples off by themselves... it's more a college frat party for adults. You will see some now and then but when folks want to hook up they usually head off to their rooms and afterwards come back to join the party. You can join in or sit back and watch. It's all good.

Cancun has lots of hotels with suggestive names. So it was better when it was Blue Bay Getaway but Temptations goes over OK.

Dressing for the shows is usually done after dinner and right before the show starts. Dressing or not dressing is acceptable. It's better if you participate but you don't have too and are not looked down upon if you don't. You can be referred to as a Rock Star if you do however. :D

I would estimate that half of the people that go to Nice Shoes for the Casino/lingerie dress for the occasion. Most of those will wear other clothes up until going into Nice Shoes, or will stop for a couple of drinks in one of the bars. Most everyone wear the same outfit for a while after unless they are going to one of the clubs with the ent cast.

Your wife will feel very comfortable dressing as risque or conservative as she wants.

Well ... there's a couple of things here you can do ...

    1) While this might not be the most palatable ... lie about where you went if you're truly that worried about it.

    2) Choose a different resort. This resort is clearly not for everyone (hence the reports in the BBC about "Pensioners held hostage at sex party" type of crap. If you're a person that can relax and get goofy and not give a shit what people think, it's a great spot. But if you're expecting to be pampered hand and foot and have a quiet, dignified experience, clearly you will be in the wrong place.

    3) Embrace the truth - your wife doesn't have to participate in the toplessness - what would you say if you were going to a resort in Cannes, France, where a good half of the female clientele will be topless or nude? I would think people would say "wow, cool!". Personally, I think the topless thing on this resort is over-rated and over-stated. Yes, it is permitted for women to go topless. Zippadeedoodah - so is it at half the resorts on the Mexican Riviera, plus all the beaches in the Dominican Republic, etc.

Personally, I think if you're that concerned about what people will think at home about where you went, then you need to evaluate on why you're going. Othewise, you'll just not enjoy yourself at Temptations.

As far as the toplessness aspect, no matter where you stay in the Cancun area you my see toplessness on the beach. Just my 2 cents....

Sorry but I find this whole subject quite amusing, tell them you are coming to Europe, topless sunbathing is allowed ON THE WHOLE CONTINENT that way they won't need to wonder did she or didn't she?

    Clarification

It's not the topless part so much that she's nervous about. We live in Ontario, "Yours to Uncover" :D , so toplessness is legal. It's the other, more risque activities that appear on the website that is of some concern.
Like I said, she is in an occupation that is somewhat stuffy and conservative. Many people viewing the website, if they knew where we are going, would not have an open mind, like we do. Her mother is also quite internet-savvy and would be checking out the website (unfortunately).
Thanks for any and all replies. I'm looking forward to our trip, if it happens. :D

Both my wife and I are in about as stuffy a profession as could be. I'm a CPA (Chartered Accountant in Canada) and she is an accountant with a construction company. We did not participate in any of the games but enjoyed watching them. People will draw their own conclusions about your actions or inactions no matter what you say or do. Not everyone who goes to Hedo is a swinger, but many people have that perception. There comes a point in life where you really don't care what some people think because if they can think the worst of you they will. Eat, drink and enjoy. Life is too short to worry about the thoughts of the narrow minded.

We've just gone through this in the past year or so and I thought I'd throw in our 2 pesos.

When it was called Blue Bay Getaway it was easier because it didn't sound so risque. You could tell people that you chose an adults only so that you won't have to deal with other people's kids. That's what we used to say.

Now that it's Temptations most people get the wrong idea.

Anyway... here's what I suggest if you're really worried about what people think.

    LIE.

Research another hotel. Golden P is another adults only and tell them that you're going to that resort. Pictures? We didn't really take any pictures. How was it. Great fun. :) Oh you want to come with us next time.... sorry we'd rather just be the two of us... etc.

Eventually you may get to the point of where you don't care and just explain to people that it's in between a family resort and a hedo resort.

    adults on spring break.. *L*

    We do the same thing.

BTW, my wife is a college professor so we understand stuffy & conservative. When we went in July, there were way too many cameras around to participate in the games (unlike years before). If you stay out of the games, you will still have fun and won't end on U-tube.
