One thing we noted last year. The MXN ‘paper’ money is are made of polymer (same as Canadian money), not cotton/linen like USD. It can actually get wet without damaging the bills.

The bills tend to stick together if they’re wet, but otherwise are fine.

we leave clothes on a lounge chair with our towel
if there is no spot ask someone if you can throw your shoes under their lounge .. we let people use ours all the time never had anything come up missing
the only thing we take down to the pool is suntan lotion that we share with everyone ..chapstick .. and tip money hubs usually has a pocket in his shorts for the money .. lotion and chapstick sit on the bar next to our drinks .
we also have one of these waterproof cigarette pack holders

As a long time afficianado, I can say some of my favorite cigars are Cubans. II just returned from a trip to Cuba in March) My very top selection is the Montecristo #2. They sell these at virtually every cigar shop around town, but I warn you, last time I went looking I didn't think a single one of them from a single store (and I looked at every one I could find) were authentic. The real cigar I describe has a slightly shiny wrapper and a rich, full taste and aroma. Every one I saw looked like it was wrapped in sandpaper (a rough, non-sheen wrap) and even the bands weren't raised like the real ones are. Every little shop in Cancun sells what they pass off as Cuban Cohibas, but first, that really isn't a very good stick when it IS authentic and if you can buy them for 3 or 4 bucks a stick, you can rest assured they are bogus.

The only real place I would trust is the duty free at the airport, and they don't sell single cigars, only boxes.

So it appears you are stating that there are no authentic Cubans available in Cancun area?

Well there is Mike “The Cuban” at TTR!

Unfortunately, it has been my experience that the "Cuban" cigars sold everywhere around Cancun are indeed cheap fakes. It's like buying Oakley sunglasses anywhere around the city or on the beach. I'd say you'd be hard pressed to find an ACTUAL pair of Oakleys. Everything you see are "FOakleys". If you want something that says it comes from Cuba to take back to a pal that wants to boast he has a "Cuban" cigar, go ahead. If you're shopping to take back to a real cigar freak, don't waste your money and don't make him put on a fake smile and say "Great! Thank you so much!" (followed by a less than enthusiastic shoulder squeeze).
