over last year we paid for net access in BVI on a sailboat - it sucked and that was when it was working and then in Jamaican hotel it was almost worse. I had it at LeBlanc a couple years ago and almost as bad. My expectations are low going to TTR...
I'll probably go price it out at our local flea market. They have a few booths where you can get your phone unlocked.
I was impatient and just went to cellunlocker.net. It's $25 and they send you a code and instructions on how to do it yourself. I'll keep you all posted on how easy/well it works.
Drove by one of those universal Cell phone stores( they sell all companies) and they had a sign outside,,'' Unlocking services. '' Also if you still have you r old phone from your last contract and the battery is still good you can do that one.
I would not unlock my iPhone because if I get a new one I will want to sell it, and it would affect the value. I will probably not worry about it and just be unplugged unless at a place with free wifi. Kids are at college and so I don't have to keep close watch, and I can give them the resort number in case of a serious emergency. It will be whimsical and totally exploring uncharted territory to be unplugged for a week, I guess I will have to get drunk to take away the Internet withdrawal symptoms - lol! Will be just like the 80s and 90s, no cell phone or Internet, how retro!
Yup unlocking your IPhone is easy, did mine and my husbands not to long ago, but the unlock from what I know so far does not work well with the 6.0 firmware which comes with the new IPhone 5 or if you have updated it through ITunes. It will give you all sorts of problems. Anyother firmware below that it seems to work fine just make sure you use a untethered unlock as well
Usually an unlocked phone has more value because you can then sell it to any one. Just check EBAY the unlocked phones sell for more. Just make sure that the person doing it is qualified, or you can use any used (unlocked) phone that will accept a sim card,, I,m sure a few people have some in their junk drawers at home (if you don't want to mess with your new phone). Note that Americans can get half decent International plans,, Canadians plans suck big time so doing this is worth the trouble.
I don't have an iPhone anymore. I upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy Note II. I love it so much more! It's massive and awesome! Anyway, so far it didn't go well. I tried the 4 ways to unlock it that the site gives you and I don't know if it worked. When I inserted my husband's SIM (different cell company) and put in the code it told me my device was unlocked, but then it said the SIM card was locked. Not sure if it has to do with his phone being an iPhone and/or that he has a code to keep his phone locked and it somehow connects it to the SIM card or what...but now I have no idea if it worked. Frustrating! I sent an email to them asking if there's a way to check to see if it worked and they told me to put another SIM card in it. Clearly they didn't even read my email explaining what I did. :banghead:
With mine the SIM was locked it was looking for the PUK Code which in all reality is a password for your SIM card. He can get that code from his celluar carrier and then later change it to a code that he can remember.
