Im still going to try and lose another 5 or 10, i just cant take cutting my carbs/calories anymore, Im starting to get weak, but its the price I pay everytime I go to cancun
carbs are ok, just try to stick to only 100g or so a day and make sure they are all complex carbs. sodium and carb loading is what body builders do before shows. im sure you don't have to do it to that extent but heres what you do: about 5 days before you leave, you put salt on almost everything you eat for 3 days. then on the 4 day cut ALL SALT AND SODIUM as well as any creatine supplements you are taking. Water and chicken only! supplement some potassium to help push the water out from under your skin and into your muscles. you should also load carbs during this time. eat just 100g's of complex carbs (potatoes, oatmeal, whole grain rice) a day. do this before you leave and you will have taken advantage of your body's fluid retention system much like a body builder does before they step on stage, only on a smaller level.
Here is a better explanation straight from the horse's (a competitive body builder) mouth: As you can see, this is a safe way to shed some water weight. Also, a few complex carbs during this time with some potassium will help push water into your muscles so that you can look more full but with less water under the skin. Since you are not a bodybuilder, I would try this on a smaller scale. Mabye a week before you leave, start adding some salt to each meal. 3 days before you go, cut out all salt and sodium. Also, I think you should know that any result from this method will only be temporary.[/quote]
I have a few friends who are professional body builders and there are a lot of tricks the average guy has no clue about. Hence, they look like freaks when they step on stage. I wouldn't want to look like that but you can always take what they do and decide if there is anyway it can help you attain your goals. As for this guy, I'm not sure what contest he was in or how he places but sodium loading is a part of every competitive body builders routine. It how they get all those veins and serrations to show. One friend of mine won the Mr. Philadelphia contest a few years in a row about a decade ago and my other friend is the current Mr. Philly title holder.
yea thats a given but to really make it pop, (i mean have you seen these guys?) they do a lot of things that a normal person would consider stranger or even somewhat dangerous. i wouldn't recommend taking it to their extent but it helps to get that water out from under the skin, which is just as important as getting the body fat out of the same place. i thought about trying this loading on a small scale but i figured its useless for cancun. between drinking and not eating right, i will probably drop some water in the first day or too anyway.
ya alot of these guys are pros and diet and use illegal substances for there career as a Pro Bodybuilder, I personally would never do that as a Pro Cancun Traveler, its amazing how some of them look, but I personally like the all natural look
I agree with you KP, salt loading is not neccesary for the everyday guy training to be in shape. It is not good for your liver or your system. Low body fat will get the definition showing. Low carb until you get to the day before your trip and when you get there eat lots of carbs and the spike in your insulin will make your veins pop out combined with the sugar from the booze and soft drinks you will dehydrate a bit shedding water. The sun will also dry out your skin. That is about it. Don't bother with the salt loading, I've never done it and wouldn't bother. I diet for about 2-3 weeks before hardcore and that's about it but I stay lean throughout the year anyway so I'm not far off anyway.
