Mexico City to give free Viagra to elderly men
Mayor Marcelo Ebrard says the city is implementing the plan because sexuality "has a lot to do with quality of life and our happiness."

I saw that in this morning's paper, Mel. I agree 100%. Beats the heck out of giving the old folks some Depends or support hose!

I would think that they might benefit from the program too. :) Unless the selfish old farts only "share" the "benefits" of the program with younger associates.

Seems a bit one-sided to me. A healthy sex life isn't just about making sure he is up to the task, it's also about making sure she wants him to be up to the task. In other words, it takes two.

By hey, this is Mexico where male sexual satisfaction is revered above all and half the women walking around don't know what an orgasm is...

To be fair to the Mexico City government who implemented the program, they have also implemented gay marriage and a woman's right to choose. Actually the Viagra seems to be an afterthought to please the men!

Obama must be behind this. Sounds like some sort of redistribution of wealth to me. Taking from the rich and giving to the poor. Just can't figure out how they are "pulling this off" (pun intended).

I bet the hard working citizens will have to pay more for their Viagra so that it can be given to those who are too lazy and used to gov't handouts to get a job and pay for their own.

OK, guys and gals. This is all tongue in cheek. I don't want to get janie and RG all riled up at me. God knows janie screamed and used curse words at me in her last email. But I still luv her and her me.

Not taking the bait TJ, sorry. You can do better than that.

My point was just that this is a country that for a long time had a culture that supported men's sexual satisfaction and not that of women. I personally know women, all of them older than I, who are perfectly glad to have their husbands out having affairs because it means the wife doesn't have to put up with the husband's sexual advances. Now if she'd been raised to LIKE sex, to know her body well enough to be able to achieve the Big O she might have a different attitude. I just think it's sad that there hasn't been more support for women to learn to enjoy sex here.

There are a LOT of middle-aged and older Mexican women walking around who have lived their whole lives with their sexuality repressed because they don't have the psychological tools to access it.

I do think the younger women I know are better off in this respect. They seem to more comfortable with their sexuality, and can therefore enjoy sex more. The culture will get healthier about sex as these women get older and have more power in society.
