Port is a nautical term used on planes, boats and ships. Port refers to the left side of a vessel, as perceived by a person on board the vessel and facing towards the front of the vessel. Port would be on the right if you were standing in front of the vessel, looking at it from the outside. Once you're inside, port is on the left.
