Have had both cablemas and telmex. In terms of internet and reliable telephone, telmex is the option hands down.

I don't have experience with cablemas phone, but in general their service is crappy and I found telmex to be more responsive and knowledgeable than cablemas.

Since I couldn't get cablemas where I last lived, I opted for telmex internet and phone and had t.v. via Dish satellite.

We have a pretty good set up (could be improved by the extra internet speed and full SKY package):

TV: Dish TV (pirata version) so no monthly fees, just have to buy the gear and download the cracks every so often (naughty, I know). Also Sky basic subscription package for kids cartoons and Mexican national channnels which Dish doesn't cater for.

Phone and Internet: Telmex. Internet 2Gb (You can get 4Gb now but it is disproportionaly more expensive). Phone has some sort of package for cheap International, National and Local calls, but we don't use the phone much - I just know the bill was a little lower when we switched to it.

I just want to know how all of you are getting "1gb and 2gb" internet speeds! Last time I checked we all had Megabit rated connections (1mb-2mb), not that I wouldnt LOOOOOVE Gigabit (or even better GigaByte) speed.... That would be AWsOmE!

 my mistake. Yeah it's MB not GB.

Maybe in the year 2020 Mexico will offer GB, but by then we'll all be talking TB.

Actually its Mb (lowercase being bit as opposed to Byte) and it was two or three of you all talking about Giga-speeds, I was getting excited for a second there... even speeds in the 1-2MB (Mega BYTE) range would be great! :D

Anyway, thats enough geeking for tonight. :pc:

I started this. My bad too.

I think it is Trina's fault though.

    cable

I agree with bncancun, I have Cablemas for cable, internet, and phone and am pleased with the service. (Cablemas seems to be MUCH BETTER than they were when I moved here 5 years ago.....but still a far cry from what most of us are used to in US/UK/Canada.)

My bill is around $1000 pesos a month for 2Mb internet (i am pretty sure that's the one i have), phone service, digital cable (including my fabulous international package and ABC & NBC!!).

The internet is rarely down....unlike 5 years ago when it was down more often than it was working. If it goes out, it's for a couple of minutes. A couple of times, it's been down for a few hours, but that has happened maybe twice all year. One of those times was due to some wires being disconnected in my neighborhood and wasn't a widespread issue anyway.

I wouldn't say I'm impressed with Cablemas, but it meets my needs....and I don't have a 2-year contract like Telmex requires and the contract fee is also much more reasonable than Telmex.

    That's my 2 centavos.....

    Susan,
Man, compared to 2 years ago Cablemas has gotten much better. They put in a tower, new server and went digital on TV.
However I have the "Basic" and only get CNN for news, but still get CSI, Law and Order and all the Jerry Burchiemer (Spelling?) shows I can handle.

Susan, there is a contract with Telmex? Because I wasn't with them for two years and I canceled. I simply went to them, said I wanted to cancel, paid my bill, returned the modem and voila! Done. Bye bye Telmex.
