    Hello

I am considering a job offer and would have to relocate to Cancun. I am looking forward to the opportunity of living there.

Since I am a single male, in my late 40's, where should I begin my search for a rental place. If possible, I would prefer being close to restaurants, a food store, and a section of town where it would be enjoyable walking around. A good pub would also be nice.

I do not plan on bringing my car down from Florida for a month or two. So walking will be my major method of getting around at first. Normally I try to avoid the resort areas, bit I am not opposed to this if it is the best option.

I would be working in the hotel zone.

I searched the posts and after an hour I gave up, so I am hoping to get some advice and suggestions.

    Thanks in advance

What's your budget? And how long a commute will you accept to get to work?

I live in SM 32 and from anywhere in this area you can walk to Walmart, Chedraui and or Sorianna, although you would not want to walk today as it has rained almost without stopping.

There are many great places to eat that are within easy walking distance as well.

You can walk a few blocks and catch a bus to the Hotel Zone for about $.60.

The main street where ex pats hang out is Av. Yaxchilan and I can drive there in 5 minutes. I go by Market 28 on the way.

As for your car, I would not drive from Florida to Cancun under any circumstances. Check out www.hydeshipping.com who ships from Pt. Everglades, about 10 minutes from the Ft. Lauderdale airport, to Puerto Morelos, about 15-20 minutes from the Cancun airport. The rate is largely based on the volume of the vehicle. I have shipped a Ford Escort for a bit over $700 and a Ford Escape for about $800. And I have recommended them to others who were satisfied with their service as well.

Feel free to send me a Private Message if you want to fire away with more questions.

This is one of those questions where budget is probably the biggest factor.

Personally, I like SM 18 (or neighbouring SM 15) we've lived at two different addresses but both in SM18. Close to Walmart, Costco etc walkable to Plaza Las Americas and quick to get to the HZ (by car).
