Went to Home Depot and talked to 3 different people in the lawn and garden section. Nobody had ever heard tierra de diatomea, but they sure tried to sell me potting soil!
Dang it! What a bummer! I thought Home Depot would have it for sure. I'll try Playa hopefully in the next few days and will post here.
Where I wade in the water, looking for bonefish, down near Xcalak, there is a silt that I would swear was diatomaceous earth, or just like it. It is easily as fine as DE....you almost can't feel it in your hands. You say you want it for pest control. Just what are you looking for, that DE has? Calcites? Silica? Or just a superfine material to smother the little bastards? Anyway, the stuff is free.
I'm looking for DE for flea and tick control. Once your home is sanitized, defend against a recurrence of fleas and other insect pests by applying small amounts of diatomaceous earth throughout the home. Diatomaceous earth is a remarkable, all-natural product made from tiny fossilized skeletal remains of unicellular plants called diatoms. But while 'DE' may look and feel like talcum powder to us, to insects it is a lethal dust with microscopic razor-sharp edges which cuts the flea`s protective outer covering, leading to dessication and death. And while DE spells death to insects, it is harmless to humans and pets.
I have asked at every feed store and green house that I can think to ask. Not a single person has ever heard of it.
You would think someone would have heard of it. I ended up ordering some online and it will be shipped directly here. I'm still going to check out Playa when I go next time. Items are so difficult to find here.
