WOW, who would have thought i would have found such interesting reading here on the forum.

Brewster, I like the facts that you brought up and found the stats very interesting.

USTWO - your first facts sounds like a "battery" not an assault.
Also, to be charged with an assault the following must be proved by the state: the person actually had the ability to carry out the threat of violence, and the act did cause fear in the victim. The act must also have had the threat of some type of injury.

There is no magic way to rid the states of gun violence. It is an unfortunate fact of life here in the US. There are way to many guns in the population to do anything about it. The answer is in stricter punishment for using a gun in a crime. It is a very small percentage of people who commit crimes and especially with a gun. Hammer these people and the occurance will drop I am sure.

Thank you. In Canada we do have legislation that any crime committed with the use of or even the insinuation of having a firearm doubles the sentence. It doesn't stop it all but I think it plays a part in deterrence.

Which of the proposed gun laws would have prevented any of the mass killings? Absolutely not one of them. All the feel-good laws propose to take guns from the good guys. The gang bangers and other idiots will always get them. We don't need to give up any more of our guaranteed freedoms. Don't become another despot run country that disarms the populace.

How about this. Allow people who want to carry a firearm carry especially school teachers. Here is the way I see it a person will probably think twice before doing harm to another if they know there is a chance that person will defend them self.

A bully/ Punk is only going to prey on the week.

I totally agree. I wish a few teachers carried. And I am even more convinced because a student brought a gun to my daughters school in December and shot himself. I hate that it happened to that child but I thank god everyday he didnt take anyone else with him. Police arrived in 8 minutes but alot could have happened in those 8 minutes had that child made an even worse decision.

A good friend of mine is a grade school teacher and he would die to protect his "Kids". He said he would carry if they let him to protect them.

There is nothing wrong with legal lawful gun ownership. The average person who owns a gun, I am sure, wishes they never have to use that firearm to protect themselves and their loved ones.

The problem is the illegal criminal who uses guns to get what they want.
This is what causes most of the problems.

Mentally ill individuals will always exist and there may never be a way to predict who they are. They people will use what ever is at their disposal to cause harm.

Quite the heavy topic for a vacation forum. You guys should book a trip and mix a drink. Maybe start another thread on thoughts regarding gay marriage or abortion. Lol. Whew! I logged into Cancuncare and Facebook broke out!

2 Dead At Day Care: 2 Men Dead In Gatineau, Quebec, Shooting; Police Identify One Man As Robert Charron

I have purposely stayed out of this debate because it is not what I come to this forum for. That being said, I feel the title of this thread was very poorly chosen. Before anyone says it, the fact that only two people were killed in this shooting, and none of them were children, doesn't matter. A gun was brought into a place of education and used to kill people, and there could have very easily been many more innocent young lives taken. It can and does happen anywhere.

Better start new knife laws....Like I said in the start of this thread, if you want someone dead or injured...You don't need a gun.. But I will be at a knife fight with a gun. To old to run and to old to fight! Just saying!
