Well here it goes; 2006-1st time we had spent a week at another resort and decided to try BBG for 4 days. As soon as we got there they were posting possible hurricane (american for heuuuricane) warnings. So being somewhat intelligent we decided to get the hell out of Dodge and drove our rental Jeep to the airport. We were informed at the desk we were among 20,000 other peolple wanting to get out so go back to the hotel. We did. To be safe we were told to follow the busses to a little Catholic school 11 miles inland. There we were taken care of wonderfully under horrendous circumstances by the employees from BBG who left their famlies to take care of us. Oh by the way the hurricane was Wilma. Lowest barometric pressure ever recorded in the Atlantic Basin. 4 days later we made our way back to the resort and worked shoulder to shoulder with the employees to clean BBG up. No electric (each room had a sterno candle) no running water (had to take your trash can to the ocean to get water to flush) all of our clothes and beding was ruined. Worst of all a RED ALERT (NO ALCOHOL), 6 o'clock curfew on the streets. Pretty bad situation! However (not to be corny) it was one of the most incredible experiences ever. Thanx to Chinos and the entire staff we were taken care of better than any tourists that we encountered afterward. The staff would work all day for a basket of food and a 2 liter bottle of water so they could feed their family. If we get get the chance to tell you the whole story it was very humbling and grounding. So now after 13 times back to resort we get hugs and kisses from many of the staff upon arrival.
