This is a better plan and we have done it in the past. Then you just put it in their safe and go party. We usually don't have a problem but we know quite a few people from this site. we even be willing to do that for you if we are going at the same time. We are there 12-26th of april.

We weren't offered a room for our things, they just set them outside with all the others. We just took a small bag with our money and passports to the pool. We all put them together at the pool and kept an eye on them.

We purchased a vacation vault. You can lock it around the beach chair and put your valuables in it. It will not keep things dry if submersed, but protects things from drink spills and water fights. The web site is: www.vacationvault.com

The biggest problem for me with the "check vs. carry-on" is the liquids issue when you are going somewhere for a week. I hate that they charge to check a bag, but the only reason I have to check it is that I have too many liquids to cram into a tiny ziplock bag. That is the STUPIDEST thing right now, and the reason I hate the TSA so much!! When I saw them take away a teething toy from a baby because they said it had more than 3 oz. of water in it, I almost lost it a few years ago! Talk about focusing on the WRONG problem! UGH!!

I know you can buy certain items at Walmart once there, but that is not helpful for some brand-specific things I need to keep my curly hair from becoming an unflattering and out of control afro. The liquid rules are lame, and I don't think it stops any shenanigans at all - only inconveniences law-abiding people (and that is the REAL terrorism!!).

I'm stepping off the soapbox now :icon_lol:

And about while you wait for a room, connect with Cancuncare people who are already there, I'm sure you can arrange for someone to help with keeping stuff in their room until your room is ready. Keep uber valuables close to you in the pool area and don't drink too much that you ignore your bag. It is only for a few hours, then you can throw caution to the wind the rest of the time with your stuff in the safe :)

We were probably there 20 times before we ever new about the locked room and if I remember correctly we only found out because we were on like a 7pm flight and were a bit worried about the bags being at the front door for so long, so they offered us to use the locked room. But like I said, others are going in and out also, so I still wouldn't leave passports and money in there. Best to keep them with you for the few hours.

Small Dollar store locks on the zippers will let you no if any one has tampered with you luggage.

I would be less concerned about my wallet. I would be more concerned about my identification; passport, etc.

We have in the past worried less about these things but this time we will have to have our bags held on both sides of check in/check out. I'm for finding a friend that can hold your cash and passports until your room is ready and/or you have to check out but you don't have to leave the resort for a few more hours.
