I do not have a disdain for the public. I simply choose not to lose sleep over the fact that some people cannot understand how I do what I do for a living. Trust me, it's these very people who come running when they get into trouble. You don't know me. You don't know anything about my client base or how I interact with them. But let me tell you I have worked my ass off for years to get in the postion I'm in now. And it you ( or anyone else) thinks they're going to make me feel guilty for representing people that are charged with crimes think again.
Then why bring up the subject of the public's perception of lawyers in a thread that's about teenagers who rape little children?
A legitamate and very welcome question, thank you for asking. A short way back in this thread - Karan mentioned that someone PM'ed her to ask how she could support defending these kind of folks. I suspect that this was someone who she was familiar with - and who was familiar with her, thinking about this in an in depth manner for the first time. There are those that believe that the same ethical dilemma which has led to the precipitous decline (or even demise?) of public perception of the legal field (includes lawyers and politicians of course, but has also spread judges, law enforcement, et al) has and continues to erode our liberties and resources to the point where it actually perpetuates such horrific crimes - an example of which launched this thread. The fact that one more person - previously immune to such a thought - was brought to consider this as possibility as a result of our discussion, is a good thing. I suspect more people than just one thought about it and simply didn't leave any messages. More to what I believe your question might really be about: I think the thread and the discussion has served it's purpose and I for one really would like to get back to discussions on how one might get one's pipe's cleaned (I did read the 'pipe cleaning' thread by the way - and they were actually talking about PLUMBING, as in pipes and filters and yeccchhhhhh!!!!!), so if sleeping dogs can be let to lie at this point , let's let them - and my apologies to those we might have rudely awakened. You have every right (and I will heartily join with you) in going back to sleep and/or to enjoying the party (or both!).
Actually it was someone who doesn't know me other than from what I might type on this board. Never met him..never PMed with him..never even had a chat with him in a thread on here. Just someone judging me by what I do for a living....not exactly an open minded person im my opinion.
I'd like to go 60+ times a year too, kait. My 60+ trips are to BBG (where I had a room at BBG) in about 6 years. I'vebeen to Cancun about 85 times or so in total counting the trips I didn't stay at BBG but stayed with Dany.
