I am going to rethink the trip insurance!!! we had to cancel because of a family emergency!! I assumed that the trip insurance was handled by Expedia!!! NOPE !!! It is handled by a third party. Now the "cancel for any reason" wants doctors records !! ALso the airline gave us "credit for the airfare", there is a fee for changing however. The hotel refunded 5 of 6 days. Bottom line is the insurance is only required to refund $500 for a $1600 trip. I have been getting this stuff for YEARS, but this is the first time trying to actually use it. Yes, and I did a lot of research!!!

TRy some premium Travel credit cards , they cover the first 1500, themn I have a yearly policy with TD bank, that covers another 1500, plus all the other normal stuff

They all have a pre-existing clause , that cam bite you in the behind

That's bullshit, I have been buying that for years, I always thought I could cancel one time for whatever reason. If they only have to refund $500 , I will take my chances. Thank for the heads up on this.

Us too! I'm gonna ask hubby if he was aware. Are all trip insurances the same though?

Its not just trip insurance, insurance companies are a complete scam! At least with trip insurance you're not forced to buy it like many other instances in life. They love to take your money but as soon as you make a claim they'll do everything possible to get out of paying. Total BS......

Expedia refunded the $$$ for the 5 Hotel days immediately, no insurance required. Delta gave us $850 airfare credit, but of course they charge a huge change fee for booking another flight. I haven't filed a claim yet, but I assumed Expedia would handle everything.

So if Expedia refunded for 5 Hotel days and Delta gave you $850 credit for airfare what the hell did the insurance do for you!!!!

good question!!! The insurance company is a group called Berkerly !!!! I haven't responded yet to their claim forum. They are supposed to cover the 1 hotel night plus the $400 that Delta is going to charge us for rebooking !!! A LITTLE more involved than we assumed. around 500-600. IF you posted this type of question on TA, you would get 1000 Bozos (who have never traveler anywhere) trying to claim its all your fault. I'm not sure its a scam, but its also not what I expected.
