I have not been on the forum for quite awhile due to issues I am having with two sick parents which is consuming all my non work time. I just quickly jumped on today because of info I got from RCI. Don't know when I will get back again.
I think what the person who emailed Terry B was pointing out was something I found out this week when I called RCI.
Apparently RCI has not limited ALL POINTS PROPERTY owners to an allowence of only 33% of their annual allotment of points to be used for points partners program. The only ones who this does not apply to is Premier members (believe it or not!). Old premier contracts have the 60K limit and the new premier (PBOR) contracts can use 100% of their ANNUAL points for points partners (as per RCI)??? This will definitely hurt any possibility of a class action of premier members vs RCI since now the restriction applies to everyone. In reality (depending on how you look at it) it is harsher on other property owners then some premier members. My other property is only worth 41,000 points a year and I have to pay a maintenence fee of over $1200 per year on that property!! RCI has not sent this info out to points property owners. You only find this out if you call them to use points. I did get this info from a supervisor and then called my other property to confirm the retriction is in effect. My other property owner services dept was not notifying it's property owners either. Guess everyone would like to just slide this in! So it looks like RCI is the culprit here and their clause in the fine print allows them to do this, as they quickly point out when you call to complain. I am sure a class action suit on the part of ALL points property owners will not get anywhere because of that clause!! A real sad state of affairs! I am sorry I ever got involved with RCI and timeshares!

I received a letter from RCI in Sept. 2008

Notice to all RCI Members who purchased interests at Blue Bay resorts before Feb. 29, 2008:

In accordance with the terms and conditions that bind RCI members, and in order to presrve the integrity of the RCI network, among other reasons, RCI has changed and re-valued the annual level of points that you may redeem in exchange for Partner Inventory under the Points Partners program. Accordingly, RCI has set a 60,000 point annual limit........this restriction applies only to our Partner Inventory and does not affect your ability to apply for other vacation opportunities and benefits available to RCI members.

Hopefully this won't apply to me. I upgraded my membership May 27, 2008 and instead of millions of points they put 120,000 a year in my account. Not enough for more than two airplane tickets. They gave me six weeks a year with no maintenece fee and 8 free weeks of AI for two.
I will be calling to set up a trip and will see how it goes.

    Handyman,
I'm curious to know what kind of package you had prior to your upgrade? With the new restrictions RCI has imposed on Points Partners does that mean you can now only use 40,000 points (33% of your annualy allotment) annually instead of the 60,000? Did they force you to come up with any more money to pay for the upgrade? I know I'm asking a lot of questions but I'm hoping to get down there in April to hopefully renegotiate my contract and want to know what I'm going to be faced with. Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated. I paid $30K for close to 8.5 million points which I planned to use the majority of them towards points partners and also received 8 "bonus weeks" per year that are basically worthless. There's no way I plan on giving those thieves another cent of my hard earned money!
