My company just introduced us to GeoBlue travel insurance. You get a number to call out of the US and they arrange hospital & Dr visits, emergency evacuation and more. All providers Speak English too. You can buy it to cover you from 2 weeks to 2 years of travel. I'm told it's not very expensive. Hope you heal fast. This something none of us want to experience but need to be prepared.
I get mine by the year,, $200 total for both of us for $1,000,000 medical each, and trip cancellation /interruption ( $1,500 /PP coverage ) ,, very cheap . (Covered for a year but trips have to be less then 17 days each , as many as you want) TD Insurance Canada
Sorry to hear that Brian. I hope you got good care at home and are now on the mend. I've been hurt there too many times to count. Just a whole lot of bruises and one concussion.
I think it was be a great idea to check with your Health Insurance provider prior to going to Cancun (or anywhere outside of the US). Find out what hospitals to use and a phone/contact number. I think it you "have" to have medical treatment in Cancun then do it, However its no fun being at the sexy pool with your hand in an unsexy cast and you feeling like crap. Might as well just go home !!!
I would actually like to comment and say that the on call TTR doctor is also a very nice guy... If its not a hospital emergency, contact the front desk and have them put you in contact with him.
