You'll be fine with that, it's when you put your credit card in, that's where they get ya.

My cell is with Telus, I think it's just $1.50 a minute from Mexico? That's what the telus website says and I assume that there is no way that other charges are added from Mexico tel? Texting is only .60 per text and I've used that quit a bit to stay in touch when necessary.
Has anyone just used their canadian cell phone and paid the $1.50 a minute?

NOTE: It is Cheaper just to use your cell phone if you have any of the major carriers in Cancun IF you are only calling for a minute or two to "check on things" once every couple of days ro something. More convenient, too. AT&T - Verizon, etc.

Our adult vacations to Mexico are OUR vacations. Everyone back home knows we will be completely 100% out-of-touch for the duration...

Typical air time for Canadians is 2 to 3 $ @ minute for cell plans.
    Our plans suck

Bell has some decent rates for travel plans. Probably worth checking out before going.

I think I may have you all beat. Last year our flight was canceled due to a tornado that ripped through the Dallas airport. We heard about the tornado, the night we were saying our goodbyes(at 1am), through one of our TTR friends so we decided to check the TV. Sure enough they were right. So check our phone and there was a message from AA. listened to a voice mail for 3 minutes @ $2.50/min. Then we were instructed to call back and find out what our newly scheduled flight was. Sitting on hold for 28 minutes with the airlines, calling loved ones that have our kids to talk to kids and parents to let them know we wont be home as planned. Needless to say our bills was roughly $450 more than usual with exchange rates and what have you.

I just tried talking to Sprint for our up coming trip and they explained that the only real savings would come in the form of texts. Last year without an international prorated plan and this years comparrison
    last year texts} outgoing $.50/ incoming $.25
    this year texts} outgoing $.50/ incoming $.15
International call} last year- $2.50/min... this year $2.00min

They explained that they have not been able to partner with any of the mexican carriers/tower controllers to offer better rates

word of advise, do not use your Credit cards from the phone in your room. One of my friends 2 years ago, called home via the room phone with his CC and within 5 hours, "he" was making a $1200 purchase in Scotland while he was at the Sexy pool.
