I haven't ever heard anyone with issues doing this, USA Transfers are very professional and trustworthy. That said, personally, I wasn't comfortable do it, why we opted to go straight to TTR then do a Walmart run by taxi.
Personally, I'm not woried a bit, but why not stop and just one of you guys run inside to grab whatever you need? And for RX, I think it's worth paying $5 more across the street than loosing time to go back downtown. Only my 2¢
We did a morning bus ride to Walmart and the Mercado, nice break and we got back to TTR by 10:30 or so.
That sounds early! Lol Might try it for a break next time. We did Mercado 28 once and were disappointed. We thought that there would be good deals but mostly a tourist trap. We found that if you're willing to take a good day out, Chichen Itza is a really beautiful historic place and the locals are selling real authentic things for a quarter of what you can buy at Mercado. And there are lots to find! Really nice. Only my 2¢ again! It is true that the bus is cheap, safe and very adequate for going around town. Just need to sharpen the Spanish a little to figure out where to go on or off. A little adventure!
Agreed Mercado 28 was a rip off but there’s a killer authentic restaurant there. I think Chichen Itza is a little too over commercialized. LOVE Coba! Doing Tulum and a a cenote dive this time around. Chachobean is great too but it’d be a haul from TTR
I agree that Chichen Itza is now very commercial but when you take the walk to the sacrifice cenote, the path there is lined with locals selling either sculptures or original crafts. They have beautiful stuff and there's no middleman so it's very inexpensive. Only problem could be to get these things back home cause there are no paperwork for duty.
I actually collect the ceremonial masks, my man cave walls are filled with about 40 of them, Have never had 1 issue bringing them back. Plan on getting some more this trip as well
