I guess their thinking is that getting into and out of Walmart in 30 min is not easily done. Superama Walmart isn't that bad, but downtown Walmart is impossibly crowded. I've spend 30 minutes just IN LINE, forget about the shopping time.
Again Trina, thank you so much you're always so helpful. I was thinking about it and realized that with lines and moving around an hour can get eaten up pretty quickly. It would probably take some good effort to make it out in 30 minutes, so I'm sure they want to leave some spare time without having to charge extra time. That being said, $20 for an hour seems a bit more reasonable. I did book it with the Walmart stop. One week to go, getting excited!
I guess for me, when you consider that the Boobs Cruise is $75 each: that's at least 6 hours entertainment, booze, dinner, and more booze for about $12.50 per hour, how can a taxi service justify $30 per hour just for petrol and an hour worth of somebody's time? It stinks of tourist trap to me.
It's like anything there's always a trade off between time, convenience and price. You could walk there and back, it'd take you 3 or 4 hours, be hot sweaty and tiring but it would be free. You could rent a stretch limo, it would be expensive but comfortable and lots of options in between. I'd have to disagree with you there Trish. While the driver isnt paid $30 an hour it is also taking a van out of service that could be used for other jobs. Imagine if they dropped the price to $10. I'd bet well over 50% of transfers would opt to stop, many just out of curiosity rather than necessity. So you'd have Walmart's parking area looking like USA Transfers overnight depot and a dozen drivers sat around half the day doing nothing. They'd need to buy more vans and hire more drivers to ensure they could meet other clients pick up times. That doesnt make business sense to me. It takes a lot of $10's to cover a new van, licensing and driver. So I am sure it is not priced to offer value (like their transfers are) but priced to reflect the fact that they probably would rather not do it at all, but will reluctantly offer it for those who simply cant do without.
I totally get that Steve. It's not like it's just paying for the time, it's paying for occupying other potential transfers they could be making money off of.
I actually think its worth it. Once I'm there I hate leaving! The $30 isn't bad when you think they could basically do another transfer in that hour. BUT the $30 cost of stopping does off set the cost of buying beer etc right across the street from the resort.
I'm more thankful than ever that I really like Dos Equis! I try to avoid Walmart when I'm home, much more so on vacation and a $30 cover to boot!
check in, eat lunch, take bus to Walmart cancun, get the beer (we get alcohol and mixers to keep in room for getting ready and company) come back, room is ready PARTY!!!!
