That happened to us a couple of years ago! Except they didn't kick us off...it was 2 girls and THANK GOD Justin was with us or we probably would have gotten kidnapped!!! It was quite scary...don't recommend going over to the "ghetto" of Cancun!
My wife and I had that happen to us 12 years ago on our first trip to Cancun - back when you couldn't drink the water or the ice. (and there was no Walmart, we just overshot the downtown area). It was scary. Now that we know a little more, of course, it's not scary at all. There's no where the bus goes that is dangerous in the least. (But you wouldn't guess that from first appearances as a first time Anglo tourist.)
I don't really agree with that. The R1 bus goes to the Crucero and I don't think that's a place a typical tourist will want to find themselves in. That's not the bus you'd typically take to Wal-Mart so I don't think you have to worry about getting off at the wrong spot but like any other city, Cancun does have unsafe areas and the Crucero is one of them. And the bus dos take you there so if you're on the R1 and take it all the way to end before it turns aroudn to head back to the Hotel Zone you would find yourself in an area you don't want to get off it. Tourists have no reason to be there.
Even people who go all inclusive hit Wal-Mart to stock up on drinks for their room and snack and other things like that.
what happens in Crucero ? have you been there before? so if i got off the bus in Crucero , would i get jumped?
It's not that anything particular happens in the crucero. It's just that it's a very poor and run down area where a lot of the hotel workers live. Yes....you may get mugged there particularly at night. Many of the locals do as their walking through the noeighborhoods especially if it's pay day. It's just an area tourists have no reason to be in and shouldn't. Yes...I have been there. But I am about as far away from being a tourist as you can get without actually living there.
