I've posted this before, but now my daughter and 2 of her classmates must start to make final arrangements for their Senior year project. Since we own a condo in the HZ in Cancun, these 3 young ladies would like to complete their Senior project in Cancun in order to practice the Spanish they have been taking in school for the past 4 years.

Also, my daughter would like to work in a medical or veterinary environment as she will enter University in the late Summer as a student in a physicians assistant program - and must fulfill a volunteer requirement in the field of medicine prior to entering the program.

Thank you River Girl for recommending RAP Animal Rescue. This would be perfect for them, and they have started communications with RAP, but the only drawback is location - since they will depend on the bus for transportation - it is difficult for them to get to Bonfil from Cancun Plaza Condos by city bus. Maybe they can take a cab. They will look into that possibility.

They have also looked into the Animal Rescue on Isla Mujeres...and most likely will try to arrange a few days of volunteering there. But, again, it would be difficult to make that trek everyday for two weeks.

They are open to all ideas.

    Thanks for your help!

There's a group here that really badly needs help, it's called Rescate Malix (Malix, pronounced Maleesh, means Common in Maya afaik).

I have not yet seen their facility but it's north of Cancun, close to Puerto Juarez. It would be worth asking them if a bus runs up there. They really need the help and many of us here in the animal rescue community are trying to rally support for them. They are doing educational outreach as well as rescue work.

The web site needs work, but here it is:
    Rescate Malix | Rescate Malix

The problem is that the shelters here need to operate on cheap land, so they are all in outlying areas.

They could also reach out to vets in downtown. Several vets I know of do lots of volunteer work to help animals and I'm sure they would appreciate the free help. If you want names of vets let me know and I'll round up some contact info for you. Vets in downtown would mostly be accessible by bus.
