VolunQuest is a foundation that has a convenio with the Ministry of Education in Quintana Roo to provide the national English curriculum to public school children in municipals where there are not enough trained personnel that are Mexican nationals to do so. We have been providing trained volunteers in Isla Mujeres this last school year with great success. We are also starting our second annual ESL summer camps this next Monday, which we are very excited about.

For the following school year, we will be entering into the continental zone of Isla Mujeres to provide this same curriculum to the first graders of Rancho Viejo. Because of our increase in grade levels in Isla Mujeres insular and the expenses of crossing daily, we have not been able to find someone to cover the three first grade classes at this primary school.

If anyone is interested or knows anyone that is interested in volunteering for a semester or entire school year, please email me at ktywan@volunquest.com

Volunteering includes full training from the Ministry of Education and VolunQuest, along with supervision and access to materials. Once the volunteer has completed their time on the program they will receive a certificate of training and participation from the Ministry of Education. Volunteers only need a tourist visa for their first 180 days, but if they decide to later extend their participation, VolunQuest and the Ministry of Education aid in the process of obtaining a working visa.

Because this particular volunteer will be farther away from the island, they will have less supervision than our insular volunteers. For that reason, I am really looking for someone with teaching experience. We have been offered to open next year in Holbox, Tulum and Bacalar so a hard working and dedicated volunteer will very likely be offered a supervisor position in one of these municipals after their service.

EDIT: I would like to clarify that Rancho Viejo is on the mainland Cancun area near Puerto Juarez and Punta Sam. The municipal of Isla Mujeres extends to the mainland as well.
