The longer you wait, the more certain it will be whether it's going to affect Cancun badly or not. It could end up going over Western Cuba and we might only get a few hours of stiff breeze. Waayyyyyy to soon to be cancelling vacations, IMHO.

"A few hours of stiff breeze"... I really hope so!

In all seriousness though projections are not showing us escaping this one lightly. If you have the flexibility to wait, then wait and decide once the situation has more clarity.

Since you're flying Wednesday then I expect the airport will either be open if all is OK, or closed if it is not - so your decsion will be made for you.

I would definitely say though, for anyone planning on flying into Cancun over the weekend, cancel if you can. If you arrive and the worse happens not only will you have a shit time but you will also be an avoidable burden on the emergency contingency plans.

Steve, you said in one paragraph what I tried to say less eloquently in a full post.

Don't go!!! Many might be debating on taking a chance but the reality of the matter is this is just a vacation for you and that is a bonus, you by going to cancun knowing there is a hurricane on the horizon are creating a burden to the emergency system and you are setting yourself up for a bad time in a big way. Stay home and don't get caught up in the hurricane. It's not fun.

Sitting here at Fat Tuesday checking my email it is one of those calm before the storm things...beautiful day, people getting on the pirate ships. I am starting to take deep breaths and blow it north. I have big lungs - it may work!

The government is asking airlines not to send any more people to Cancun. They want empty planes to come in and take people OUT of here!

It's a fools errand to come here now. The hurricane shelters provide little more than what's needed to survive. You don't want to end up in one of them if you can avoid it.
