Very early to tell if this latest tropical storm will affect Cancun or not, but thought I'd start a thread anyway. Tropical Depression 4 is headed towards the Caribbean, and current models suggest it will arrive in around a weeks time. Since this morning the projected path has veered North a little, before it looked like it was headed straight for Cancun. With my zero meteorological skills I'll predict that it will increase in intensity but will veer more northwards as the days go on, avoid Cancun completely and as it leaves the Caribbean it will reduce in intensity and possibly affect the Carolinas, but as a storm and not as hurricane force. Of course, it could fizzle altogether. Something to keep an eye on, but far too early to be thinking about cancelling any planned vacations.
I've been watching this one for the past two days, since it was just a wee little tropical wave. The very latest advisory tonight said: "MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 35 MPH...55 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS... AND THE DEPRESSION COULD BECOME A TROPICAL STORM ON TUESDAY." My prediction is that whatever it does it will do it to Florida, because Florida always gets hit, Florida and/or Cuba.
Steve, First I hope you recover very promptly, my wishes to you Then, good idea to post this thread, but why don't you post it also in Cancun Life? I think locals are very interested too, and the newcomers don't always know how to get the information and when to be prepared. Just a suggestion... http://www.nhc.noaa.gov
Now predicted to be hurricane force easrlier in it's track and the track has veered south slightly. Let's hope a weather system appears somewhere else to force it Northwards sooner.
