Some resorts are offering free rapid testing for guests. Excellence is one of them. I can hear the front desk now at TTR... "Oh look you tested positive, we will be happy to accommodate you in your time of distress. We have a few rooms for full price if you want to extend your stay with us... would you be interested in attending a membership presentation for a preferred rate". Too cynical?
Yes...and because you can test positive for months after, I just don't know that we can do that! This stinks! I was so ready for our vacation but now thinking we may need to cancel.
From reading the "news" this morning even if you had covid-19 shot you are still required to have the test. I also read hotels/resorts are setting up testing sites. We are thankful we booked for June.
Give it a week or so. My predictions are you'll soon find more testing centers than there are taxis. Prices will come down as they compete. Hotels will be on the ball and have arrangements in place for their guests. The Govt will bring out subsidies for reduced price extended stays if necessary. My main concern would be it's not so easy to increase capacity of accredited laboratories both facilities and staff. There are already clinics that will come to the hotel and carry out a test there and then, for a lot cheaper than the price quoted earlier in the thread. This is one, there are others: COVID Testing for Air Travel – Laclicsa Laboratorios
I keep seeing people bring up rapid tests, but I think as it’s worded right now that those types of tests are not approved to meet the requirements. Did someone find something different that said a negative rapid test is allowed?
This is such crap news. We haven’t had Covid and tested negative for the antibody. We just can’t risk testing positive before boarding the flight home and having to stay another unknown amount of days in quarantine until testing negative. For that reason, we have to cancel. Been waiting a year to get there. So disappointed....
An alternative scenario: Jannet took a taxi this morning, the driver was on the phone to a laboratory asking for 5,000 sheets of headed paper that has a doctor's signature. You can bet fake test results will be easily obtainable. Make stupid requirements, win stupid prizes
I imagine there are a bunch of people that don't have jobs, or have situations with kids at home, that simple can't risk the test. I know we would be in that situation. I wonder how long this policy will stay?
