Interesting to see that another Cancun hotel offering free insurance for their hotel stays:
"Book with Meliá to get free insurance during your stay
    Included Free
    Comprehensive coverage for Covid-19
Extension of stay, accompaniment and repatriation included

...free antigen test in the hotel

    https://www.melia.com/en/melia-safe-destination/melia-safe-destination.html

9th bullet point down, it says:
Extension of hotel stay due to illness or accident (maximum 15 days), up to €300 per day

So if we book a few days simultaneously or afterwards, we have place to stay in case of bad news...?

We went in 2009 during swine flu when the resort was at 30% capacity and it was one of our favorite trips

I've noticed a repeating pattern regarding occupancy that's been happening so far in 2021, and especially the last few weeks with the new restrictions

The hotel is busy at weekends, has been 80% as recently as last weekend. Then many people leave Sunday/Monday with few arrivals to replace them. Arrivals pick back up Thursday and Friday for the weekend again. Repeat.

So, Thursday-Sunday busy, Monday to Wednesday quiet. By quiet - anywhere between 30-50%, weekends 70-100%

Mid-end Feb is looking busier throughout the week, then early March back to the same pattern.
