not sure if anyone is as interested in the UK election as the US one, but just in case .... looks like the race is starting to hot up, after last weeks TV debate Nick Clegg has gained an enormous amount of support and the other two are have been left clambering over each other to try and take pot shots at their policies, quite amusing to watch, still looks like a hung parliament is the most likely outcome, some polls showing lib dems and labour almost at a level pegging, be interesting to see the outcome of the next debate
I am going to vote for the Iceland volcano party as they have done more to prevent immigration in the last 5 days than the labour government has done in the last 13 years:mnm:
I know who I'm voting for and i must say it'll be a protest vote. I know a lot of disillusioned people that are thinking the same way
So, its the big day today with just a few hours left until the polls close. Anything but a hung parliament (the first since 1974) will be a shock judging by the opinion polls. Probably the only exciting thing is to see which party has the most MP's, looks like it could go either way.
I'm going to assume that it's much like Canada where voters tend to vote for the person that they think will do the LEAST damage. *L* If a politician were really smart they could actually stay in office and win popular vote by telling the TRUTH because that would actually make them stand out from the rest of the lying, thieving, fat cats.
well the results are in, and suprise suprise we have a hung parliament. I think a coalition government with the conservatives & lib dems, with Clegg as chancellor to draw on experience from Ken Clarke and Vince Cable. According to some newspapers the end of the world as we know it will soon be upon us, slightly over the top. slightly dissapointed that the Lib Dems lost ground considering the support that has recently been shown, but i think there has been alot of tactical voting this time round with people voting labour to try and block the tories. Sounds like there will be some legal challenges due to problems at the polling booths but can't see that changing anything. one has to wonder what, if anything will change .....
So, with Greece in chaos and near financial collapse and a "messy [political] state of affairs" in Britain, it does seem that uncontrolled spending and huge budget deficits DO INDEED MATTER???? "The markets are concerned that a weak government might be unable to reduce the UK's high budget deficit quickly….. "This messy [political] state of affairs is proving unsettling for the markets, with sterling sinking to a one-year low against the dollar and even losing ground against the euro, which has been torpedoed by the eurozone debt crisis," said Howard Archer at IHS Global Insight. Investors are worried that a hung parliament will result in a weak government that will be unable to force through measures to reduce the UK's high borrowing levels." Things are going to get messy now - bad news the Conservatives didn't win outright - i would have liked to see UKIP win. Glad I live in Cancun :icon_mrgreen:
