Yeah...the RIU properties typically have "fifth" bottles of vodka, whiskey, rum, and tequila/brandy encased in a glass, wall mounted container with dispensers at the bottom of them. Most other places consider water, soda, and crappy regional beer to be the full embodiment of a minibar.
In years past, the member mini-bar upgrade was an extra water, Coke, and beer. We did occasionally find the made the bed a second time for us.
Been to TTR 24 times, never wanted to stay in and drink in the room. If need a few drinks for the time we are actually in the room, there is a nearby bar for drinks to go. So room alcohol never really been a concern. Stayed at Heaven @ Hard Rock Hotel RM 6.5 montys ago for New Years Eve week. Incredible 2 level room with an attached sun deck roof. The room was definitely well-appointed to fulfill the hotel's promise of 'Live like a Rockstar' Room had the rotating bottle stand loaded with 6 variuos liquors upside down with jiggers attached.. An array of glassware and a bartender set of (muddler, corkscrew, mini tongs, long-handle layering spoon, etc) on a separate rotating stand was provided on the wall unit under the 50" Samsung LCD, beside the jacuzzi. We never once used the room liquor! Instead we ordered chilled bottles of Moet & Chandon which were included from room service. Of course we always got some nibblies along with it and even did it one morning with our breakfast order. As we both said, why would we pay that rack rate to make our own drinks! We can stay home if we wanted to do that. WTF is Living like A Rockstar about making your own drinks?
In the past when we were there, Dennis asked Damian for a bottle of Crown and he brought it to our room. Of course, Dennis tipped him. Not always, but a lot of the time, if you ask nicely and don't act like an ass, I believe most of the staff is pretty accommodating to the members. As I mentioned, not always but most of the time....
We are not members, but have been given extra alcohol to take to room while cleaning up for dinner. Not bottles mind you, but a couple drinks worth in a glass. The staff were amazingly attentive! I hope some of the original ones are there. But I'm confident any new staff will be great also.
