Not to throw fuel on the fire or anything, but I actually was curious about this and found an interesting site ranking Mexico 11th worst country in the world for unsolved murders of journalists.

I have lived in several countries, including Congo. The only worse for corruption in my opinion was Brazzaville Congo, Kinshasa Congo was much better than "here". Maybe because my husband spent half a night in jail in Brazza, guess why??? Fortunately we had our baby daughter with us, they love babies, our son had stayed in Kin, we were there for the weekend, I blackmailed them a bit, cried another bit, and called our consul friend. Thus the "half".

Looking at the index on the site Coby posted finds this about Mexico:

So it's possible Mexico's ranking is actually higher than 11th.
