You do know how those star ratings are calculated, right? It's almost all based on amenities the hotel provides, not actual quality of the hotel itself, drinks, food, staff, etc. Hold a sec, I'll go get it for you. Back in a sec.
OK, that Star system is even more screwed up than I remember. They basically come right out and say that the system is based on whoever is doing that reviews perspective of what is important. Do this Google search, and read it for yourself: "how are the hotel star ratings calculated wikipedia" There's some decent wiki info, and them some other rather uppity-anguaged info. Seems to me that, if your hotel can't bri ng you at 3:00 a.m. what can be served at table at 3:00 p.m., they are in serious trouble on the rating system. Stuff like that. And, stuff like that, I don[t need. Come to think of it, the places that have Stuff Like That don[t have what I DO need, which is topless chicks in stringback thongs strutting around and guys doing beer chugs naked then belly flopping into the pool to win a t-shirt. I kind of like to admit, I'm really just an educated caveman, is all, and there's where my best entertainment resides. On the bottom shelf.
Agreed! We have been to Cancun and Cabo TTR. All the review sites are trying to compare TTR to "other" (aka BORING) resorts out there. It is a different environment. That's the best part! Part of me is happy that the review sites keep the "yuppies" away. I love TTR because of its accepting environment, and I believe it needs to stay that way.
From Trip Advisor reviews, I was expecting to walk into a run down mediocre resort at best. This is not the case! Price-wise for an all-inclusive option, TTR is exceptionally good value, and the quality is not compromised. As an example, my first day we arrived fairly late and almost straight away went to eat at the buffet. I had to walk in twice because first time I thought we'd walked into a speciality restaurant, it looked that good. I'm used to buffets looking like a cafeteria with no staff and a couple of dry-looking service pans with some sort of 'meal' in them.
