Oh, I booked through Orbitz, too. They sent me an email about the possibility of the flights being cancelled..I'm coming from Florida though. Unless it looks like it is coming to my area, I'm going! But I am counting on Dos to make it all better! If that doesn't work, Lulu (bartender at the quiet pool) will probably help
Could any of you locals offer this midwesterner a little insight as to what the weather is typically like in the days following a TS like this. I know that there are lots of variables of course..
:bigband: was there when MITCH THE BITCH HIT NO BIG THING WE ALL HAD A GREAT TIME AIRPORT WAS CLOSE WE WHERE THE LAST PLANE TO LAND I WAS CONCERN AT TIMES BUT ALL WAS GOOD PLENTY OF FOOD AND GAMES
Things can get back to normal weather wise pretty quickly once the last bands of the storm have passed, the sea surge will drop just as fast too. The ocean is going to be messed up for a few days after though and I expect the visibility for divers wont be very good for a while. I dare say the Chinese at TTR may take a hit, it usually does. Wind speeds are now up to 70 mph, so it only needs to increase by another 4 mph and it will officially be a Cat 1 hurricane again. As for preparations, we havent really made any, the locals aren't too concerned. Might go and put a few of the garden things away if the rain ever stops.
We are supposed to be flying into Cancun tomorrow at 3pm. I've been monitoring the flight status for our particular flight and no changes yet. How is Ida looking for those of you on ground there right now? Think it's gonna be a doozy or pass over fairly quickly?
10:30pm at the moment. Light rain outside no wind. Ida is veering more and more Eastward and hasnt intensified as much as some thought. This one is no biggie, we are on the west side of the storm which is much better than the East. Not sure on the status of the airport tomorrow, if I were to guess I'd say there's a good chance it might be closed in the morning but I wouldnt expect any closures to last very long. Keep an eye on the Living in Cancun forum: http://www.cancuncare.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=8 lots of us locals posting about current conditions, including Rivergirl who's hubby works for immigration at the airport and is expecting to go to work tomorrow as normal.
excellent so the weather machine I have been working on the last few days worked? All kidding aside this is great news for a multitude of reasons! :lotsofmichaelf: :headbanger:
Looking at the satellite pics there is plenty of clear weather following behind Ida = sunshine. It hasnt rained since 11am which is the first day in about a week, winds are light. I think normal service is about to resume. Have fun all those about to leave.
