I registered our passports and trip info with the US Dept. of State S.T.E.P. program today. Good to do when travelling to a foreign contry. They supplied a long travel advisory dated Sept. of 2010 about Mexico. You can go to the site to read the whole thing. Mexico No where in the entire warning was Quintana Roo mentioned, the Province where Cancun and Riviera Maya are located. The warnings about not wearing flashy jewelery, flashing large amounts of cash, securing passports, staying on the beaten path make good sense for Mexico as well as any American city. Pickpockets are known to mingle with the club crowds late at night in all Mexican resort cities. Our neighbors teenage son had his expensive watch removed outside of Senor Frogs in Cancun and did not even realize it until he went to check the time. Caution - yes. Alarm - not necessary.

I would pick Cancun over Los Angeles anyday.....i live about 30 miles south......Only reason to go to LA is to go to a Lakers game...hehe Trip # 5 in 30 days!!!!!
Yep, we were at temptations the week it hit TV....we never heard or seen anything while on vacation..then get home off the plane and everyone had masks on....hehe alot of hype over what?
Lets be honest all those things happening in Mexico are true. But the media makes it even bigger. Most of the problems are have and will be near the borders. The touirst area are very well protected even the onw cartels protect those areas why because thats were they sale their product. So you dont have to worry about anything. So go and have fun. Just dont do what you would do back home like go in a dark alley!

I will say that I think Mexicans in Cancun have some sort of mind control or secret operations going on, cuz ive woken up in the morning and my head was killing me, my liver was hurting, eyes blood shot... I mean I could barely walk.. then I see people that I apparently saw the night before and they say I was saying and doing the craziest things (as if it wasnt even me).. funny thing is I didnt remember a thing. Mexican Aliens I tell ya LOL Like every one has said, Cancun is one of the safest cities ive been in, just keep and use the same smarts you would in any other tourist filled cities.. have a great time
