Trip Report - March 10-13

Part of me thinks this is one of those topics that Steve may want to consider coming in and padlocking the thread I think. Many of the posters, myself included, were put off not so much by the content of the trip report but the perceived tone of it. Having to politely suspend disbelief or lack of sophisticated conversation for example sound to me like someone looking down their nose at those who consistently find stimulating conversation or enjoy the theatrics that Chinos displays on a day to day basis.

Sadly it seems that some people have taken the initial criticism of the trip report personally and others are in turn sticking up for them (ie. Dan). What we have left is a St. Paddy's Day bitchfest that only loosely resembles the original debate.

I feel badly that NY Witty didn't enjoy her trip, but the resort doesn't really seem to fit her needs after the fact. She probably knows that the exact wording of her report isn't going to make repeat customers very happy. But in the words of the great Rodney King for the rest of us, "Why can't we all just get along?".

You're right in that I did not specifically respond to your comments about condescension and "calling people stupid". I did write that I regretted writing "Don't go to TTR for sophisticated conversation" and elaborated that it was the constant "take your top off" vein that was disheartening, so I hope that if you reread that post you'll better understand where I was coming from.

As for the willingness to suspend disbelief, that was a comment about myself. I wasn't an English major but my understanding of the concept of willingly suspending disbelief is that it puts on responsibility on the _reader_ rather than the _writer_ to overlook the boundaries of a story. In this instance it would be _my_ willingness to accept that I was at a sexually themed, all-inclusive _resort_ where people don't sit around in berets listening to NPR, and instead of demanding they put on All Things Considered just get drunk, jump in the pool and let people take shots from between my boobs.

Hopefully that brief explanation allays your concern that it was a comment on anyone else's intelligence. Suspending disbelief is a fascinating topic that most of us unconsciously participate in on a daily basis, and when you're occasionally faced with a scenario where it isn't a good fit (like a Star Wars fan getting upset because ***there's no gravity in space!!!!***), you can choose to _willingly_ suspend disbelief and just enjoy it for what it is.

Totaling agree with you. Also, I agree that it should have been worded maybe differently. But every time someone posts anything negative, their dirt. Can we also use the forum for good information whether it's good or bad, and not be bashed? Those that don't like TTR, may post their TR and never post again. And those that do like TTR, but have a few things they don't like wouldn't you want to know for your next trip? I know I would, things have changed over the years. My opinion again.

LOL Your brief posts after someone tries to give a measured reply are hysterical. Your last one was timed the same way. Can't get more "over yourself" than giving someone a thoughtful, nuanced response that says it's on you to have a good time.
