brent&kells, I have to admit I felt a little like a traitor clicking the final button on our reservation at GOV in June. I love TTR. I love the people. I love the crazy games and Tiger and Paloma and Paty O's and theme nights and all the craziness. I think a lot of us really do feel a deep relationship to TTR. I think it's just kind of exciting to have another option and to know that if they compete, they're both going to push each other to better things. For us, knowing that we have a group who will bring the party wherever we go made us less worried about how long the crowd turnover will take. But, yeah, that's a huge consideration. I could care less about the rooms or food but I will be really sad if I'm the only topless drunk person dousing strangers with AIWC!
Our logic is we absolutely LOVE temptations and always will. We had the best week of our lives there. And we will be back, likely for Octoberbreast 2014. However, if we were too loyal to the jersey shore and didn't try Atlantis Bahamas then we would of missed out on the super resort experience. If we were loyal to Atlantis and didn't try Vegas we would of missed out on partying like rock stars and being introduced to day time pool parties. If we were loyal to Vegas and didn't try TTR then we would of missed out on the best party experience combined with the best 'real' people in the world. You just never know what else is out there until you try it. And I understand what you are saying, you are not saying to not try it but just thought I would explain our logic as I see how it could be taken as TTR hating which is definitely not the case for us. We just hope we can have our cake and eat it too. Have our TTR party style at GOV and have nice luxurious rooms, jacuzzis, a beach that makes you feel 'tropical' and better tasting food. Oh and we like clubs so it will help being closer. We tend to create our own party also so GOV may be a good fit. We are excited to find out!
Thought I should throw in my 2 cents on the debate re the perceived negative posts regarding Temptation. Cancuncare is not tied to any one hotel. Our aim is to offer our readership free debate about whatever people want to talk about. GOV is the 'new kid on the block' and people are talking about it. Whether it is here or elsewhere GOV is being talked about. That's why I separated the chat about GOV off into a new subforum. Choice is always good for the consumer. With rumours of Temptation undergoing renovations, higher prices and recently firing a popular member of staff there's a little bit of a backlash at the moment, especially as there now appears to be a viable alternative. From my point of view, I know most people here take one, maybe two vacations a year and they are very valuable to you. You save for them, you take time off work that is limited and you want it it to be as good as possible, I want that for you too. What I try to do is provide a forum where free unbiased expression is allowed and let you guys make your vacation choices based on the information you read from similar like minded people. When you consider the whole market... the number of people in the US, Canada, and UK who enjoy this kind of vacation, I am sure that two hotels in Cancun, with similar but different concepts, can both be successful. I hope both hotels are full all year long, and that they compete for your business - making the trip all the better for you!
I agree with and complety understand the logic of trying a new place for the sake of trying a new place, and if we planned on more than one trip a year we would do it too, and i really hope that GOV turns out to be as amazing as it seems, cause truth be told we prefer nicer hotels and if we could go to a place that has temptations atmosphere, but a better settingx we would be there in a second. Fact is, its not Temptation resort that we love, its what everyone from Cancuncare turns it into when they are around. Right now though, just kinda seems like when your best friend gets a new girlfriend. Everyone starts looking at all the bad things about the old one and compare it too the new. Which is all good, until things dont work out with that new girlfriend and he is back to the old and you're sitting there back tracking, trying to explain why the bad things you said really arnt that bad afterall and you're glad to see her back...........(made that mistake once) so far all the reviews have been great of about GOV and we rely hope they continue and i would encourage anyone that has the chance too try it out. Hopefully it will be a shiny new place that we go to next year. Its funny though, the whole point of my original post here was that while i dont know scott and kellie (sweetchildomine), you both seem like true ccc partiers and when hou are looking to book for february this year, while its a lot cheaper at GOV, i was just trying to say that i feel like it would be a compleely different type of vacation this year. Still a great one im sure, just, well.....the feb crew wont be there yet funny how things get off track
My wife and I discussed our trip last nite and came to the conclusion that we would go back to GOV in a millisecond. No way that is going to happen until April, but airfare and resort rates look very good. Its around $500 less than Grand Lido Negril and almost $800 less than Hedo. (and no Grandma and Grandpa gone wild). To be honest , we are not True Partiers!! Maybe 25 years ago!!! we do like Sexy however!!! We are really Beach and Ocean lovers and GOV's beach was right up with any of the Jamaican beaches. We spent at least 3 hours a day floating around the beach at GOV. If you're a beach lover then GOV is the BEST !!! I did miss all of the fun stuff at TTR, but I didn't miss the really bad beach and oily water that went along with it. My wife certainly didn't miss the bathrooms at TTR. Also liked the elevators at GOV!! (even with the blue lights). We never slipped once !!! Important for us. All GOV needs to totally kick TTR out of the race is for enough TTR folks to show up. Thats all !!! The staff at GOV is certainly happy and excited about the upcoming changes and it shows. We also enjoyed the 7 am flight back to Atlanta. took 1 hr 50 minutes and the immigration lines were the shortest we have ever seen. Breakfast at Bubba Grumps was also very good !!! Not sure if it was $30 good, but we didn't have a choice.
Choices, choices, choices.... That is the best part about it and Steve thank you for breaking the news of the new GOV to us. Everyone on here has a certain love for the places we have stayed. Especially when we have made such great memories with friends and staff. It isn't a matter of jumping ship and converting to GOV. It is just a matter finding what works for you, your budget, time away and your sense adventure. Make no mistakes I am not down against TTR in any way. I love the place and staff and the memories that were made. My common sense(which I generally have little of and when drinking it is almost non-existent) tells me this. I have very little time off, I have a low budget, and I need a solid guarantee of quality. GOV has seemingly proved to me that the bang for the buck is there and I would be willing to give them a shot. TTR has shown that at least for the time will be going through more growing pains than GOV and I don't want the risk of being bumped to a resort that I am not gonna have as much fun. That's all.. just weighed the options.
FYI last night I was able to get a $139 a night rate in orbitz for may at gov. Not sure if it is still available but worth a shot. They have a 55% off deal for Mexico adults only resorts. The deal comes up automatically in the price. Then in addition enter promo code celebrate. That takes an additional 15% off. You won't see the 15% off in the price until the page where you click to purchase/finalize the trip. In addition the hotel is fully refundable up until a couple days before. I cancelled my previously booked gov trip which was $170something a night and replaced it with this $139 a night one. Also note temptations is not included in the promo. Their rate still ranges at $220-$260 a night during the same time period in May. Seems like the perfect reason to give GOV a try before rates normalize. Our dates are now May 9-12 and then we are trying Pearl.
We are die hard TTR fans and always will be. So we know TTR and what to expect and can't wait to get there, but we also are very interested in the GOV. We can try an party like a rock star for 2 weeks at TTR and we hope the GOV maybe a bit more relaxed where we can still have a good time but calm down and relax before we have to head home..We're not sure what to expect but from what we're hearing its pretty positive. I think in the end we're hoping that we can do both, a week of wild crazy and a week of classy, R&R.. time will tell I guess.
Thank you for continuing to monitor deals at GOV. We typically book and forget. We jumped on this deal and saved a lot of money off what we thought was already a good deal. We dropped the SPICE upgrade as we now understand it is not worth the added cost. We will probably try to upgrade to a balcony room when we arrive thru Valentina. Rebooked May 8-14! $139/night.
