My wife and I are staying at the Sonesta Maho Resort this October....I understand that the Sunset Grill isn't too far from us, so I'm sure we will at least check it out...we are wondering if there are allot of topless women at Maho beach in general, walking the beach etc...just wondering if my wife will be comfortable going topless on this beach or if she will be one of the few?...also looking for any other suggestions for a day at a nude or topless beach where we will find other couples doing the same thing...is there just Orient Bay?...any words of wisdom will help.
Joe, if you go the villa route, check out Wimco Villas. They seem to be the biggest player in the condo market in both St. Martin and St. Barts.
I have been to St Martin 10 times so I am probably sort of a expert. I usually stay at Grand Case Beach club on the French side and the last few nights at Maho Resort on the Dutch side. The reason I do that is because driving around the island late at night is really not that safe especially if you have been drinking. The French side is so much better but I always need a few nights of nightlife and action that I can get on the Dutch side. The Dutch side really doesn't have much topless. Even at Sunset Bar, which I love, doesn't usually have much topless even though they can drink free. On the French side it is a lot of fun but the fun happens between the hours 10-4. Go to Orient Beach between that time and you won't be disappointed. The nude part is at the very end on the right of the 3 mile beach. You can rent sunbeds and they have 2 for 1 drinks between 1-3 every afternoon. Most people and been coming to that nude beach for years so I would call it a mature audience. The rest of the beach is topless with young people and families and if you eat lunch at their restaurant you may get sun beds free. After 4 we go back to our hotel at Grand Beach Club and watch the best sunset you will ever see from our oceanfront studio that cost 200 on the offseason. Then we walk a few blocks to the town of Grand Case which has the best restaurant in the world, not kidding. Some reggae bands will play during the day when cruise ships are in on Orient beach during the day and some nights in Grand Case but usually quiet after 10. There is other great beaches on the French side that are topless with great shacks with food. Baie Rouge and Friars beach but a lot of fun. Can get sun beds there also. The food is expensive but if you are smart can find great food for a great price. Some restaurant offer 1-1 meaning if you pay cash they won't charge euro but dollars making it cheaper.
