Somehow I knew you guys were going to do something spectacular while there (you have been looking forward to it so long), but falling, getting knocked out and breaking your nose was not what I expected. I'd love to here more about the boob cruise and other highlights. So the question is - considering all the good and the bad - are you going back?
this concerns me as well, just wondering if you saw them (bed bugs) or just had bites..and if you have bits were you at the beach at night..Brewster and I were on the beach a few trips ago at night and I was bitten to death, mostly my legs and most people said it was sand flees. i said bed bugs but Brewster never had a bite on him. we have been there a few times since with no issues.. i really hope you reported it .. and didn't take your suitcases in your house when you got back home.
With regard to bed bugs, I believe the problem has become catastrophic in the US and Canada in the past few years because it has become illegal to use the chemicals that have been so effective in the past. It it my hope (putting my enviromentalist self aside) that Mexico is not so stringent in this case and that TTR can blast the sh!t out of these guys. There has been so few post about bedbugs that I hope that it is an indication that it is not a consistent problem there and it is not a consistent problem because they have the means to iradicate the problem when it arises (and it is bound to arise). I would love to hear from others that may know more about these things than I.
Bedbugs are gross - if one room has it in no time there's an infestation! YUK! When I traveled - mostly third world countries - I took a handmade sheet sleeping bag - douse it in insecticide beforehand and let dry. It helps alot. Or just seen on Amazon a organic slumber bag with repellant - originally $65 now on sale $8.50! Free shipping. Great bargain to avoid those critters!
We did, but have no idea what action is being taken. Didn't actually see the little fellas, but we spent no time on the beach at night, just kept ending up with more and more bites. Our friends were in the room next door and had no problems. For the smell, the gift shop sells candles.
Oh gosh this worries me too! Hubby and I just booked our virgin voyage to TTR. If he sees this, all bets are off. :icon_neutral: So, I should bring spray lysol and my own sheets maybe? UGH what a headache!! I would be very interested to find out what has been done. Can someone call or email the resort??
To be 100% fair, it may not have been bed bugs, it is a tropical environment and could be any number of mystery kreepy krawlers, but it seemed to happen only at night which suggests bed bugs.
This is the first I've heard of bed bugs in Mexico. The U.S. outlawed DT (I think that's the name) back in the '70's but it's not illegal in Mexico. My dad worked for a chemical company so we still had stashes of the stuff up into the early '80's. I know I suffered from a lot of little bites the last time we were there but I discovered that the less time I spent out on the balcony in the evening, the less bites I received. Anyway, DT will kill them and that is why Mexico didn't have the problem that the U.S. and Canada recently encountered.
dont stress to much, this does not mean all the rooms are like this, we have been several times since our experience and never had any problems with bits or anything else.. now that the bomb as been dropped its hard to take the word bed bug back.. but if it was reported I am sure that they will spray the room, as they still have the stuff that kills them as apposed to US and Canada where its been taken off the market.. which is the reason its on the rampage again .. it also does not mean that the place is dirty..so.. just go to bed DRUNK and you wont care.. ahahah
