I think it,s about a 2 1/2 hour ride. So people get your conversation hats on.

Yes, Craig is exactly right, 2.5 hours to get to Chichen Itza. Feel free to ask your driver to stop along the way for potty breaks or snacks or anything you need. Honestly there is not much between Cancun and Chichen Itza, maybe a couple of gas stations and toll booths...that's about it :)

Would one be safe to bring professional camera equipment on this excursion ?

Well, not tripods or pro or semi-pro video cams. If it looks too professional they won't allow it. Chichen Itza offers its own DVD to purchase and does not allow professional videos or tripods inside the ruins. I've never heard of professional cameras not being allowed however.

    Yeah you should be fine.

I know at Tulum the entrance fee is higher if you are using pro video equipment, not sure if that is the same for Chichen Itza. Trina?

There is a small Tequilla distillery along the way, isn't there. Craig has let us all know how much he likes his Tequilla. It's only a short stop (15-20 minutes) and although a little bit touristy, it is interesting.
