Do your self and everyone else a favor if your building your wealth by being a cheap ass then maybe you should find a resort that cost less
lmfao!!! im aussie too (in texas) and i know exactly what we would say.... poor kid he probably should not go now id say.
I agree! If this kid has that attitude... He might want to have a peek at how easy you can get arrested or hurt by simple disrespect to the police there. He better be making a fortune if he crosses the line and gets locked up! Lol ..
I'd say this thread is a joke trying to get everyone wound up. Pretty hard to believe for me anyways.
Wow, nobody holds back! Tell us how you really feel! Don't get me wrong, I agree with you all. The Mexicans make $5-10 per day, which is obviously terrible!! I am one of the over tippers and I am happy about that. Dropping a few dollars or extra dollars at each meal, for the chambermaid, bar staff etc... will not make or break me. If my couple dollars could make a big difference in someone's life that is a very little price to pay to have huge benefits on the receivers side. In addition to the dollars I also bring clothes or shoes or hats etc...On one trip in particular I bought a pair of $120 soccer shoes wore them twice, didn't like them so I found a staff member at the resort who was my size that played soccer. When I gave them to him he was so grateful, his eyes lit up and almost popped out of his head! He was sooooo happy. I think VancouverStudent is young and inexperienced, perhaps he just needs to be educated on this situation. He probably does not have the experience we have. Now that we have brought him up to speed, I HOPE that he does the right thing moving forward. Merry Christmas all!!!!
Bring your juice box from snack time. I think they still have those at the elementary school you attend... TROLL ALERT
I actually volunteered one summer in college in a place called El Florido near Tijuana. Its basically a shanty town where people build houses with any materials they can find, typically cinder block and plywood. Thousands of people living there in very close conditions with no running water and some with no electricity. I suspect there may be people working at TTR that go home each night to places like that. My point: Tip. And tip as much as you can afford. A few dollars to you will hardly mean anything. But to them, it makes a monumental difference in what they can provide to their families. Most of us have been the poor college student, so count your blessings that you can afford to go on a vacation, let alone to an all-inclusive resort in a foreign country. And be thankful for what you have, where you live, that you have a roof over your head that doesn't leak, that you have enough food and that you have unlimited clean water to drink and bathe in. You're lucky.
Wow.. First of all, I am not a "troll" everything I said was exactly as I think. I am being transparent, honest and expressive yet I get flamed for it by the board? I thought you are a family, a community.. Is this how you welcome new members? My point is that if I bring $100 for tips and you bring say $300, then that extra $200 I save by tipping less, that difference I can put towards my next vacation while you are throwing your money away on tips.. you cant see the logic in that I dont know how you can call me a troll? If I can better my life by going on more vacations more frequently by minimizing my spending at an all inclusive resort while still feeling and acting like i own the place, why would I sink my capital and liquidity into tipping when the service is marginal at $100 vs $300 a week? Secondary, it may be a shock to you but if you think about it with more common sense you will realize you are only empowering/increasing expectations of the servers there by tipping more than you should. What I mean by that is that if we enforce a basic $1-2$ tip per service, room, dinner etc then that standard is what would be considered "normal" to the Mexicans. If you start going out there and spending your disposable income and giving away $5 or 10$ tips then their expectations would rise. They will think they actually deserve more, and become more arrogant to those who only tip $1-2$..You are not impressing anyone by tipping more you are only causing prices to go up and expectations to go up. If we want to keep our all inclusives as cheap as possible we can not allow the standard of living to get high in countries that we vacation to. That is common sense, you are cannibalizing your own product.. Look if you dont understand what I mean I wont blame you, I am a business student and I understand economies of scale as I understand how to maximize value in a capitalistic environment. I just dont want to be flamed by people if they choose to waste their money so be it, I am in a position where I understand how our economy functions how to get the most for less and how to maximize human capital and assets. Give me a break.
flamed for being smart does not equal flamed for being ignorant...and as far as I see, no ones really flamed you...youve OBVIOUSLY never worked in ANY type of service industry...
