I am excited for my first trip to TTR with my gf, but one area I am planning to save on are tips. We want to book several tours and do massages on the beach and will walk up and down the beach bargaining with the Mexicans for lowest price for 2 people.. Seeing as some people here seem to think giving cash away on tips is somehow making their experience better I would like to ask if tipping $1-2$ is the same as tipping $10-20? If there is only a marginal difference between a tip, no tip, a small tip and a large tip then why tip large when you can save money? Why spend $200-400 on tips when you can get by tipping people $1 here and $1 there, maids, hotel staff, taxi drivers.. $10-20 a day in tips is my limit but I was wondering what mentality people have to tip more? I consider my self very good with money, I am building wealth and spoiling my self with a luxury trip but tipping expectations on this forum baffle me and I want to know what other people spend on their tips in a week. Thanks.
Oh boy. Why tip at all, if the goal is to build wealth? why buy the bride an expensive ring if she'll marry you anyway? Why not take the money when you see children selling things? Or if someone happens to be smaller than you, who has the right to dictate to you whether or not you should pay them at all? Don't be a douche, the people there work hard for their tips, if you can't bring yourself to reward their efforts because of your decency, do it because I'll publicly ridicule you for being such a tightwad.
You want to save money no problem, have your girl flash or offer a boob squeeze or something like that to the waiter. I'm sure that he would provide you service, plus you save money. Now problem is solved. Any other questions that maybe we can answer for you?
sorry kid, I am sorry I stuck up for you and tried to be kind in your thread about " I want everything upscale and a huge discount and a room upgrade for only 700US$" Don't you think everyone else going to Temptation has to work and pay to go there? But a lil appreciation goes a long way! If you say your building wealth...I will now honestly say I don't know how! Because if I were your boss, and you treated ANY of the people I have a work relationship with, the way you are talking about treating the people that work DAMN hard for not much,to make sure you have a good time and cold drinks..I would fire you so fast!! At first I thought (well, he just wants to impress his girlfriend, and he is panicking). But putting threads that are pretty much saying you see your self as so beyond the staff of a great resort like TTR? You lost my vote kid. I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed!!
bargaining with the Mexicans? You're also dangerously close to crossing a line that goes well beyond being cheap.......... Why even visit a country with such wonderful people and a rich cultural history? Most workers in Mexico earn in the range of $10 per day in wages, FOR A 10 HOUR DAY. They treat us well, work hard and enjoy and are grateful their jobs. I for 1 have never seen a beggar on the streets which is more than I can say about our country. I've seen inside houses there that are 400 square feet and have 10 people living there, I think I'll fork over an extra buck or two for a tip and maybe make someone's life a little better.
Wow. Just wow...Im gonna do my best to not flame you but wtf. I get it, if you dont have a lot of money, tip what you can. Do us all a favor. Keep that shit to yourself. Dumbest thing you could have done is make that public knowledge youre looking to be a cheap ass. You can go to NO RESORT ON THE PLANET where the regular employees remember your name, are truly happy to see you when you come, hug and kiss you when you show up once or twice a year. These people work their asses off to make sure YOUR vacation is memorable for pennies on our dollar. Some of us take hundreds upon hundreds of dollars to make sure we can do something for the families of our favorite bar tenders, waiters/waitresses etc. To see the look of appreciation on their faces knowing they can do something for themselves or their families they normally dont have the money to do is what its about. Theres a reason the regulars on this page continue to go back and for that reason we make sure we take care of the people that take care of us. Do us all a favor, if this is your attitude to these wonderful people, and their beautiful city and country. Stay home.
I was going to respond in typical Aussie style but I think all of our TTR family have summed it up perfectly above. Peace out Lisa
