Makes perfect sense, Rawkus. There is a restaurant at the edge of the sea, north of Puerto Juarez, as I recall. It's under a big palapa on the beach, but I can't remember the name, just that it had good seafood at local prices: ditto, the beer. Perhaps someone else can help me out with the name. Pocodinero, you know the place I'm talking about? Also, I don't know if it's open at night, but it should meet Rawkus' requirement, and INM said I should consider him.
Let's make it this Friday, at 8 PM, at the "Delphines" restaurant near Playa Blanca. (I think that's the name of the place.) It's under a big palapa, has modest prices for everything, and sea food is the specialty (the food quality is also perhaps, "modest", but isn't it almost everywhere here?). It's just north of Puerto Juarez, which is just north of Gran Puerto from which Ultramar launches to go to Isla Mujeres. You can get there by bus, or taxi. It should be quiet, relatively speaking. I could reserve a table for us. Although it's open air, I doubt they allow smoking within the area designated for restaurant. I'll check all the details, today, and report back. We could meet somewhere else if someone has a better suggestion, so long as it is relatively quiet (I must be getting deaf, I didn't notice it being that noisy at Los Arcos, and it hasn't been, the last couple of times I was there), but I'd like to stick with this day and time, if possible. _______________________ These get togethers are not just about seeing old friends, and making new ones, those of you who are new to Cancun, or have some questions about practical details of life, here, please come with your questions such as, 1) how do I establish a bank account/open an account with the utility companies or internet providers; 2) how do I find the best place to live/ negotiate with landlords, and what terms should I expect; 3) how do I get an INAPAM card, if I'm over 59 YOA; 4) how do I get permission to live here, long term; 5) how do I go about finding a job/work as a self employed person; 6) how do I start my own business/deal with the tax office; 7) how do I handle the information returns required by the IRS; 8) how do I register for IMSS, 9) how do I go about buying property here; or, any one of a myriad of questions that the "old timers" have had to face, at one time or another.
Sorry you can´t make it, Steve. Who´s going to pick up the tab, if you´re not there! As a matter of fact there is, Rawkus. Somewhere around the bull ring has been suggested as reasonably quiet, at least in the early hours of the evening!, and it fits your request for something closer in. We could just get there at 8 PM, and pick a place to begin. I´m not in for much drinking (stifle yourself, please), but a place that´s not too expensive is always in order: as I mentioned earlier, at INM´s suggestion you´ll be on me, so I have to be careful! Las de Guanatos used to seem to me to be fairly economical for both drinks and food, and offer something tasty to eat; and T.J. says they have the best margaritas in town (or used to), and that will mean something, to some.
Im not a big drinker V, so dont worry I really prefer a place where people can talk without screaming into each others ears. People - any other ideas??
Whatever Super Carnes is called is good, outside of Soriana, the one nest to Home Depot, We can probably get some beer special as they offer them on NFL nights, which Friday and Saturday are not. The only potential logistical problem would be if there was a big futbol/soccer game. They have a nice, covered, outdoor seating area and tons of parking. Easy bus access too Just a thought.
TJ: Partidos de futbol(aka soccer, jeje) this weekend: Friday: 2 games. The first starts at 730pm and the second right after, at 930pm... Saturday: 2 games starts at 5pm, 2 games at 7pm and one at 9pm... Put pretty much 2 hours per game. Does it get loud during the futbol?? Ps. Do they have other stuff than meat? Jaja
We are a diverse lot, and meeting everyone's requirements a challenge. We've yet to hear from the ladies as to what they might prefer: perhaps that would help. And, perhaps Steve would like to suggest a date that works for him, then start over again.
I'm up for anything as long as we're not screaming and it's easy to grab a taxi outside Super Carnes sounds like a good option to me. Haven't been there before.
