This will be the first resort (we have been to 9 others) that has an outdoor bar near the pool that stays open at night. Can you ever find a seat? It doesn't look like it seats too many but we plan on having drinks out there.

Also, am I correct in that there is no buffet for dinner? Only sit down restaurants?

We went in July last year and never had a problem finding a seat. It may be different at busier times of the year. The Tiki Bar is a blast though! Party goes on until the bar closes.

No buffet for dinner is correct. Never had to wait to be seated in any of the restaurants though and the food was very good! Try the fancy restaurant atleast once! Beautiful setting!

You won't have a problem finding anything to eat for dinner if you don't want any of the restaurants there's still breezes and room service. Also there aren't many seats around the Tiki but there's still lots of room to get your drink on

Great! Thanks for the replies. As I said, we have been to Cancun 9 previous times, and we just haven't run across an outdoor bar that was open late near the pool, nor non buffet choices for dinner. We are more than happy going to the restaurants. We are especially looking forward to Pier 12 and the Old Barn, but now we may reconsider the fancy place. Thanks.

Shangra la is awesome. Have to try the chicken cordon blu. And the coconut shrimp at pier 12 is good also. Shangra la has a dress code, long pants, collar shirt, all the other restaurants are casual.
