What I love about Cancun I agree, the weather is the best anywhere, even with a few hurricane hiccups. The people here are awesome, we love ya Tooj. Nothing beats a day at the beach (thanks RiverGirl for the Isla Blanca tip). My puppy loves it! $15 (or $18) peso taxis & $50 peso speeding tickets, can't beat that. Wearing shorts and flippies to work What more could we ask for???
Isla Blanca - The beach at the end of the Cancun world. You really have to want to be there to go there. When you are in the area it is still over 4 miles down a nasty road and you are there.
Trina is referring to this post: http://www.hiddencancun.com/rivergirl/2007/07/22/isla-blanca-before-its-too-late/ I for one don't love Mexico for the food. The food is largely cheap, and lacking in both nutrition and flavor. There's a reason you've got to put chiles or salsa on everything here. And there's a reason that diabetes is killing this country. Give me thai food, indian food or japanese food any time. And I don't love Mexico for the tequila because I always end up naked when I drink the stuff. But I do love Mexico for how efficient certain things are. Today Deana and I went to Caritas to donate stuff for Hurricane Dean relief. We got there and people surrounded us to help carry everything, write receipts and thank us. We were out of there in 5 minutes. And an hour later someone called to make sure we had found the place. And two hours later I got an email thanking me. Some things around here actually WORK!
Rivergirl. You are always the life of the local tequila parties. I cannot wai for the next one. I love those little day of the week undies that you end up swinging around your head before the night is over.
Feeling pretty stupid asking about Isla Blanca now, once you told me where it was, I realised I have actually been there, my wifes uncle took us in January when we were last over! The road was very bumpy and it took at while to get down it but we had a Tequila every 2 km or so, so it made the road more bearable Beautiful, tranquil place though, I am sure there's many more like it if your willing to drive further north (obviously not that way or you'd get very wet!) Rivergirl, I am surprised you say about lacking nutrition and flavour, I think it has both, here in the UK and I am sure the same is in the US, the food is very dry and a lot of things are processed, even the vegetables! I found in Cancun because the fruit and vegetables were so cheap, plentiful, natural and fresh they made me feel great. Okay the meat is cheap but then again unless your shopping in Marks and Spencers over here then who knows where the meat has come from, it's probably better for you in Mexico, I would have thought it was more natural farming, but that's just my opinion and I don't know too much about it. Chillies are good, especially Habaneros, developing tolerence is good for getting friends amongst the manly Mexicans! Also, nothing wrong with getting naked when drinking ample amounts of Tequila, I've kind of taken it as obligatory behavior, evidence can be seen at the following links (my wedding in Cancun when they convinced me that it was 'Tradition' to help drink six bottles of Anejo 1800 and be stripped naked in the toilets and sent out back into the middle of the party to be photographed by my own mother!), my friend later got naked voluntarily in the middle of the dance floor, pictures I will save for a another day http://photos-216.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sctm/v96/112/116/679147216/n679147216_123625_6913.jpg Yes that is a plastic bag covering my modesty! http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v97/37/83/619230369/n619230369_632867_6454.jpg The bag just isn't working for me! and Rivergirl and TJ, these Tequila parties sound infamous, be sure to send me an invite if you need some help with the Tequila drinking, i've had good practice and have learnt my lesson not to take a Tequila bottle to bed with me at the end of the night, the wife poors any that's left down my throat when i'm waking with a severe hang over and desperately searching for water! Looking forward to meeting you all, sounds like we can have some fun, the cruises sounds great, do you have them once a year and do you all attend?
Also, here's a couple of none naked photos of us so you can see what we look like properly Ingrid http://photos-216.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sctm/v96/112/116/679147216/n679147216_123636_1.jpg http://photos-369.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sctm/v104/37/83/619230369/n619230369_864595_5611.jpg http://photos-369.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sctm/v104/37/83/619230369/n619230369_864596_5849.jpg Me and little Sofia http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v113/112/116/679147216/n679147216_265035_4651.jpg Our dog Stanley (who we are very sadly having to leaving behind) http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v113/112/116/679147216/n679147216_265438_2232.jpg Sofia http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v134/37/83/619230369/n619230369_1114951_1294.jpg See you all soon
