I'm either too dense or too simple or too dumb to understand if this thread is really humorous jest or not so humorous quasi-vitriol or some bastard mix of the two. So! I'll slightly derail it for my own benefit If the response to my interruption of whatever the heck this thread really constitutes is scathing, I will happily withdraw my 'contribution'. This thread at one point in time had something, maybe way off the truly intended path, to do with INM. So here's my situation -- I work online with clients exclusively in the US, I meet all of the FM3 qualifications, and I travel back to the States at least once every 45 days. I've never had a problem getting a 180 day FMT, even though I rarely need that much consecutive time. I don't need an FM3 for a bank accout/contracts/whatever because my significant other is significantly Mexican. Basically, I see no reason to go through the hassle of acquiring an FM3 when my life is perfectly fine with an FMT. We plan on being here until at least next Fall, although have no plans to stay here permanently. So, should I actually jump through the rings of fire to obtain an FM3? Am I obligated at a moral/legal/social level to do this? I don't feel bad for not having one, nor for the lack of Desire to obtain one, yet I don't want to shaft the country nor its people, nor the foreign residents here, since I've been blessed with affordable housing in (what is for me) the most perfect climate and geography on our small planet. End of derailment and thanks.
No vitriol, in the least, Coby. I've started two humorous threads on this forum. They are pure fabrication, except for quotes from Rivergirl, which came straight from this forum, and the sign, at immigration, which is real- both of which appear in this thread. Those who post to either of those two humorous threads risk getting their post used as material for the joke (in fact, sometimes the joke largely depends on contributions from others, which I'm then challenged to try to find a way to work into the joke); or, as in the case of the other humorous thread, Academy Awards, the "input," has been mostly pure invention, as there have been no photos submitted, there have been no "emailed" nominations, etc. I've started perhaps 10-15 threads, recently, including the two humorous ones. People read them. Together, in the past month, or so, they've had 15,000 hits. All but two of these threads are deadly serious. There is no overlap between the serious threads, and the humorous ones. I wanted to try my hand at a little, pure (just occasionally slightly, impure) humor, for a change, to liven up the board, just a little, with something clearly different. RG played along, on the Academy Awards thread, but refused to play along on this thread. That's fine by me, but posting anything to this thread risked having her posts worked into the humor, which is in fact what happened, several times. Things are funny for many reasons. Often, things are funny because you are not quite sure a person is NOT being serious. The two humorous threads are meant to sound just serious enough to be funny. I hope they have been, to at least some of the readers. Those who don't find them funny, can avoid reading them: those who don't find them funny, at all, should avoid posting to them, or they risk finding them even less funny than before. I think if you search any of my threads, or posts, other than these two, which are tongue in cheek, you will find nothing I've written which makes fun of RG. It's often hard to make yourself completely understood, in writing. I hope I've come close to that, with this post, which is not funny.
NOT FUNNY, EITHER [And, as to the question you asked, which also is not funny, my point of view on getting involved with any regulatory scheme, such as immigration, is that it should be done only when necessary. As long as there is nothing you want to do in the country which requires further documentation than an FMT, I wouldn't do it, as unnecessary, and a waste of time and money. I got an FM3 because I wanted to live and work in Mexico, on the Mexican economy, so for me it was necessary. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bothered. I had also planned to apply for IMSS, but only if I had decided to get an FM3 for other, unrelated reasons, such as work.] V.
Re: NO JOUSTING, ONLY JESTING Okay. I'll own up to my own deficiencies. Someplace in here I lost track of the intended humor. My fault, perhaps. At any rate, it was not my intention to be a wet blanket upon the proceedings. If I've offended either party, V or RG, I extend my apologies. Joust away! I'll be quiet, in the background, observing.
OIL ON THE WATER Your sweet, Mixz1, if I can say that of a man as old as me. In any case, I understood completely your motives in making the post, and they were honorable and well intentioned (even though it followed what I thought was my funniest post, so far). As for understanding this thread, it's probably run its course, at this point. :lotsofmichaelf: :lotsofmichaelf: Uh,oh, have I offended someone? I'll just remind you "noisy fellows", there's still the Academy thread left, and I don't think I'm out of ideas, yet!
This will be my last post in this all-too-tired thread. Coby - You don't need to bother with an FM2 or an FM3, unless you come up with a reason you have not mentioned so far. You are leaving often enough. Your work is unrelated to Mexico. There's no reason for you to jump through INM's hoops, pay out gobs of money or waste your precious time standing in lines. Unless you plan to live here a long time and would benefit from eventual citizenship or FM Inmigrado (permanent residency) status then don't bother, that's my advice. Mixz1 - Thanks. TJ - That quote was taken from the Onion (or another humor site) I'm pretty sure. I think I posted a link to something funny. V was taking my quotes out of context, so, obviously, you missed the context. I wouldn't want you to start thinking that I might have gone over to the dark side...haha. V - I am not the only person for whom the humor of this thread was lost. And I think that I, of all people, can be forgiven if I don't find much about INM funny. I live and breath the dysfunction in that place. CancunCare readers generally benefit from my knowledge of INM, so I think they all will forgive me if I find that your humor on the subject falls short. The fact that you can find so many things I've said to quote is a testament to the fact that I've been posting here for years. By combing through my past posts looking for quotes it seems to me that you were looking for evidence that I'm, what?, a bad person?, not funny, a bitch? what? Whatever you were doing, it was mean-spirited and not appreciated. If I've offended you, I'm sorry. Now, I would very much appreciate it if you would lay off putting my name in bold. Thank you.
Hi, Rivergirl,, it was none of those things. It was, and is, funny, simply, intended to no other purpose, in what was, and is, a thread devoted to humor.
Wow! 12 marks of punctuation in a single line! That makes me think of the amount of speed bumps on the road that crosses Solferino, a tiny town on the way to Holbox island. It's about 1km from end to end and has a population of about 800, but if you wanted to go through it, you had to go over 15 topes; hence its nickname "Toperino". I know, I know... this is not funny!
I've been in Solferino and you are right, it has a TON of topes. Toperino is a great name for it. I think it's funny, but hey, what do I know?
Hi Coby ~ My situation is very similar to yours (internet-based business, clients outside of Mexico). I was on an FMT here for 5 years because I traveled so frequently between Cancun and the U.S., with usually no longer than 30 days between trips. I only finally got my FM3 when I was going to live alone in a new apartment and I needed the FM3 to sign a lease. One expat on this board made a snide remark that it wasn't fair, that I was somehow scamming the system, when they had to jump through all these hoops. But even immigration officials at the airport told me I was fine on an FMT for my situation at the time. As RiverGirl says, don't bother with the FM3 if you don't need it.
