We usually fly one of the charters from STL that has no checked bag fees, so that makes it an easy decision for us to bring luggage. Plenty of room for mugs and alcohol infused whipped cream on the way down, and tequila or gifts on the way back. Baggage claim in Cancun is exceptionally fast, and normally not a huge delay in STL.

yea we didnt have to pay to check our bags going to Cancun either.. however I'm going to Utah this weekend and they want $20 to check a bag so luckily I'm only going for like 3 days and I'm packing in a carry-on.. I didnt think about bringing multiple containers of the same thing haha guess that works then..

If you're flying from the states a check-in is necessary if you want to bring alcohol infused whipped cream and booze. Neither is allowed in a carry-on.
We've been 4 times w/ never any probs losing luggage and always have at least one plane change. I make sure that there's a 1 -2 hour layover between flights tho, just to make sure luggage has a better chance of getting transfered to the final flight.

Its hard to fly without checking in with the new carry on laws.
They took my batteries last year, said they had to be in a blister pack.
