I hear you! I've been here for almost 9 years now and still miss my home town. I'll keep you posted if we meet in Niagara falls if you're interested.

    Have a great day!

I think that what I'm going to do is pick a date and then see who can make it! I so want to get together with everyone...I think this will be the best way.

Let me check my calendar and my schedule with my son and I'll get back to everyone!!

    if i may

having organized small and large reunions/gatherings and such (doing one in october this year in new orleans with over 100 people) in the past and having watched friends/others do the same ............

    and just being honest :)

would be very very careful about what people say as opposed to what they actually do - i think steve and janet actually went through this type of thing for a number years with their booze cruises - as people would say "count us in" and then no show and they would get stuck - truly sad

i mean we have met some awesome people on this site (some i would consider my best friends) but keep in mind "yes" is not always yes

lets just say - i am glad - and you too will be glad - if you refrain from putting anything on your credit card or in writing based upon a "yes i am attending"

    just sayin

    :)

    the best

That's a great point, I think there is even a saying out there somewhere.

"The road to hell is paved with good intentions".

If all the people that said "I'm In", were actually "in" and taking away uncontrollable items like, job loss, marriage break up, death in the family, etc, then from this site alone there would be probably another 25 or so people attending New Orleans.

It used to be that your word alone meant everything. That is no longer the case, you can give your word time and time again, but until someone actually "shows you the money", then your word is useless. And the sad part is that the acts of the minority reflect on the majority, we are all painted by the same brush, especially in a basically anonymous site where you can hide behind an avatar or emoticon.

We have organized two trips to Niagara Falls, the first year at one point we had verbal comittments from about 25 people. We went and made contact with the hotel, set up preferential room rates and the whole nine yards. At the end of the day I think we had 4 rooms booked. The next year was quite similar, less than 20% of "commitments", actually "committed", at that rate I should be "committed". The time and effort put into this for the end result is extremely disappointing, then the cajoling, begging, e-mails, PM stalking etc, makes the organizer come off as the bad guy.

In our recent get together for the Make a Wish foundation, we were expecting upwards of 150 people, this was based on paid and verbal commitments, even people saying "hold me 2 tickets", at the end of the day we had about 120 people, still good numbers but lower than we were expecting, 30 no-shows at $10.00 each is $300.00, that did not go to the foundation.

It is frustrating and makes you bang your head against the wall.

We try to teach our children that what you say is what you have committed to. If my kid says he is going to be in at 10:00 pm, I expect him in at 10:00. Alternatively, if I say that next Thursday I will take you to the amusement park, then next Thursday I had better not commit to something else, because I have told my kid that he will be at the amusement park, no excuses allowed. The examples we set for our children become the foundation of our old age.

I am beginning to pontificate now so I'll get off the soap box, but man, is it frustrating.

I share your pain, and I certainly will not commit to something anymore, without other people committing beyond their word.
