@TJ: Probably, but we don't own the place and I doubt it's something we could convince our landlords to do -- maybe if we paid for the equipment, but I'm not certain how long we'll be in this particular residence to know if it's worth the cost. Btw, another option is a solar boiler (I have no idea what you really call it) - Laura's parents recently installed one of these. It cost them around $7000 pesos and now they have more hot water and no utility costs attached to it. @mcm: Yep, you are correct that the web site says this: "Cuando el consumo mensual promedio registrado en los últimos 12 meses sea superior a 400 kWh/mes, se reclasificará el servicio en la Tarifa Doméstica de Alto Consumo (DAC) que le corresponda, de acuerdo a tu localidad" That's very interesting for two reasons: (1) That's not how the CFE agent explained it to us at the office and (2) The math doesn't make sense in our case. Our last 6 billing period amounts are (note there are 2 periods that the apartment was vacant): 808, 1116, 634, 42, 56, 422 Which is a billing period average of: 513 kW/h And a monthly average of: 257 kW/h So if it was based on monthly, why did we get bumped to the DAC? The website very clearly states that the limitation is monthly though, so I might need to make a [dreaded] stop by the CFE for clarification.
