I enjoyed smoking and hated it at the same time. While it was a habit, I also got some enjoyment from smoking. But at the same time, I worried about what it was doing to my health. Chantix takes the craving away. You are directed, while taking Chantix, to continue smoking. I think that the drug tells your brain that you don't need to smoke and when you do, you think "Why am I doing this?" I know this is what happened to me. I think you are correct that you probably smoke alot out of pure boredom. That is the "habit" part of smoking. Chantix will take this away. Hope this helps!!
I smoked for 35 years. 2-3 packs a day. Got sick with the flu and felt like I was dying and decided to quit. I took Chantix for several months. It was great. I have not smoked in over 7 months. I had a little upset stomach so I took Tagamet or something similar. The dreams were vivid and sometimes bothersome, but I felt like the benefits outweighed the negatives. I never wanted to preach about quitting but it sure feels better. By the way my wife of 21 years still smokes in the house sitting right next to me and it doesn't bother me. I don't really crave the habit. More power to anyone that is able to achieve this. I wish you all the best. People ask me if I quit smoking and I still say "SO FAR". I don't take anything for granted. GOOD LUCK!!!
I haven't taken Chantix but both my mother and stepfather have used it to stop smoking for 8 months each now. Both of them smoked for 40 years. Neither had any stomach issues.
Fletch, see if you can find that out on the internet, or call your doctor or your pharmacist ... it would be GREAT if it worked for you!
