WOW! It must be fate that I stumbled upon this topic....I have been smoking for over 30 years. I quit a couple of years ago and thought I would only have a cigarette when I drank. I did fine with that for about 2 years until I found myself drinking more so I could have a cigarette, not a good thing!

So, I figured what the heck, I might as well start again before I turned into a full blown alcoholic! Add a couple of extremely stressful events in my life and I was at a pack a day again.

Now this is how the mind of an addict works: I have always worked out and do to this day. I have really been back at it because I gained that "holiday weight". So here I am, an hour on the stairmaster and 45 to 60 minutes of Pilates and what is the first thing I do when done? Yeah, you got it, light up a cigarette. You see, I justify my smoking because I work out. I realize how stupid this is, but do I stop? NOOOOOOOO.

For those of you who have never smoked, the above scenario sounds crazy, but if you have been addicted you know what I'm talking about.

ANYWAY, you guys have inspired me....I am going to quit as I'm typing this. Sorry to ramble on so long, but this is really very theraputic for me.
    Wish me luck!

You're funny, and I can relate! I would go for a walk, but smoke along the way..isn't that the picture of health?

Ramble as much as you want. If you need support, we are all here. In 11 days, it will be 4 months for me. You did it once, so you know you can do it. You have to be ready, and want to though. PM me if you want to.

    Good luck!

Thanks Terri! And congratulations on your 4 months of being smoke-free :claphappy:

I know that most of the addiction is mental...like right now I'm having a cup of coffee and the craving is setting in...BUT hopefully with the help of all you great people I can overcome this.

The other thing is, one has to TRULY want to quit. You can wear 20 patches and chew the gum, but if you're not ready, it won't work. And I speak from experience!

Now this might sound stupig, but how do I PM you??
