Didn't change our plans for this year as we'd already booked before the dollar dropped so low. We've been travelling for years and the dollar has been up & down. Our 1st trip as a couple was in '96 and the dollar was about $0.73. Basically it sucks but it doesn't stop us from going.
And airfare is also crap to the Caribbean for May even though oil is half of what it was this time last year. Paid $1050 CDN for air in Sept 14 when oil was like $98 USD / barrel and now the best we can get is between $1400-1500 for really shitty flights (leave at 6 am and get there after supper...WTF!). As much as we want a vaca we had to say screw it for any vaca in May
Glad you got in before the $ tanked We normally do a couple vaca's a year down south and have been since '07 so we have seen a crappy $ but the combination of air and the $ is a bit too rich at this point. Almost want to start a rant on airfare now since low oil $ should have compensated for the crappy $ but it didn't, lol.
Air Canada direct flight is $265.00ea down and flying with a connection on way back all around $1000.00can. From Toronto. April 30-may 7.
Our price went up $100 overnight right when I booked and haven't checked since. Last year I bought pesos since I could get more value than US. Last time I looked at currency, it was still better exchange on pesos so will probably do that again. Why waste tip money? Rather give to the staff than a bunch of bank shareholders.
My flight cost me around 200 $ CDN for both of us .. =) You should get a credit card when you earning some point and pay everything with it. I used my point in december and I'm already up to 300 points right now.. and each point = 1 $ so I may have a vacation for free next year =)
